I have looked at several Argyle sock patterns and each one is knitted flat and then has the back seam and heel to side of insteps hand sewn together. I’ve knitted many pairs of socks but these Argyles are new to me. Is this usual for Argyle socks? I prefer to knit the whole thing together as usual. Any help is appreciated

Welcome to the forum!
This seems to be a fairly common method for working the intarsia patterns on argyle socks (knit flat then seamed and continued in the round). There are patterns knit in the round but you essentially work short row turns to insure that the yarn color you need is in place to continue knitting.
Thank you very much
