I can look into it if you’d like. I would guess it would cost about 10 or 12 dollars for postage or less. They don’t really weigh much I’ll be sending a package home in January, I might be able to get a better idea for you then.
While there do seem to be some quality issues, in their defense I do have to say that I’ve found their customer service to be among the best of any company I have ever dealt with.
me too, I had a lady that seemed not to want to be at work first thing in the morning, but she did not want the non-working needles back, and ny replacements were in the post within a week
and after I got them back I was still going to send the faulty ones to them to see what went wrong, and they flat out told me to keep them and just use them as cable needles.
the one cable Ihad that came loose I put back in by rotating it and it has not popped off again (even without glue)
I am happy with them, and I extend them when working in circles by putting a smaller one on the knitting OFF side, so I can have size 9 on 2 cables I am knitting stockinette in the round on
I am happy with mine

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRG !!
I must stick my 2 cents in in defense of Options. I received mine Last Christmas, have used nothing else and have had only one problem which surfaced immediately- something wrong with the screws on one of the cables as I recall. I wouldn’t trade mine for any other ones on the market!
Hey, has anyone else had the problem where the threads are stripped? And can they/will be replaced?
I’ve got two sets of needles where one is completely stripped…
Is this the wide silver colored tape…
Hey, no need. I have been a huge supporter of the Options, but let’s face it there are some quality issues they need to address.
Yep, very common and yep they will send you new ones.
Uh huh, that’s the stuff. If you can’t fix it with duct tape and a hammer it can’t be fixed.
Hmmm…now I’m so confused! I got some money from my Dad for Xmas and was all set to buy myself the options set. Now I’m not so sure…
And as a beginning knitter, I’m wondering if I would use them as much as it seems the rest of you do? :??
According to Wikipedia, there is some disagreement about whether the original name of the tape was “duct tape” or “duck tape”. There are advocates on both sides.
In either case, it’s the shiny silver tape - but it does come in other colors, like bright orange and camouflage.
And, just to confuse things, there is something different called duct tape outside the US.
Duck tape is a brand isn’t it?
Yeah Duck tape is a brand. It’s called duct tape because that’s what the stuff was made for, sealing duct work seams.
That’s the problem with Wikipedia, even idiots are allowed to edit it.
As a new knitter you would probably use the Options quite a bit. It will also save you the cost of buying all of the different needle sizes and cable lengths. Don’t let the minor problems scare you. Just check that all the needles screw into the cables when you get them. If there is a problem let Knit Picks know and they will replace the part.
I agree, you would probably use them quite a bit. Some of us are just venting about some of the issues with them, all in all they really are worth the money.
In my experience there is no perfect product and anything that is mass produced can have issues. Don’t let our venting scare you away from trying them for yourself.
Even the Duck Tape Product site says that the product was NOT initially created as a duct tape. The tape (whatever you want to call it) was invented during World War II by Johnson & Johnson.

I just got my Options for Christmas and have an afghan on them right now. I sure hope to not have any problems, but based on what I’ve read, if I do, I think I would be tempted to return them for a refund. Has anyone had any luck with that?
That’s true. The original Duck Tape brand was invented as a waterproof seal for the military. It was the military that dubbed it “duck tape” for it’s waterproof quality.
They later began calling the silver looking tape duct tape because it was being used for duct work in the heating and air conditioning trades and it was being made by numerous companies. Duck is a brand of waterproof tape, duct is the general name for the product that was manufactered specifically for duct work.
That link is a pretty good history of the product. Amazing how interesting something as simple as duct tape can be
The one cable that came apart for me was probably my fault. I didn’t realize it but when I move my sts along the cable, I pull with the needle instead of sliding the needle through and then pulling the cable behind the needle. That way there is no stress on the join. Ellie
