Lucy, I checked your list just to see if there’s any shops my way I don’t know of. There’s one in Fintona, Co Tyrone, that I go to that didn’t make the list. I wonder how many others there are hidden in NI.
As for the archaeology, must concur – dirty and tired about covers it. When I was done the first dig, I thought my nails would never be clean again. Two weeks on a beach in Croatia was a great recovery tactic.
Hi
I live in Belfast now but I come from Bangor.
I can answer two questions on this thread.
Lucy - The Kings Hall exhibition wasn’t great for knitters. I went with another knitter from knittingforums.co.uk and we managed to stay two hours, including coffee and buns. I think we were only there that long because we couldn’t believe that the stalls had so little and we went around again to check. If you want to take up card making, then you missed a treat!
Tarrentella - The shop in Bangor had a stall at the exhibition and their stuff was nice, but there were no great bargains.
See you around.
Squiffy … hic …!
I live in Newport South Wales, (where they film Dr Who). I’ve got a couple of yarn stores in my town centre but they tend to stock mainly cheap stuff and no top quality what so ever.
Hi Nobones,
It is mainly depaqrtment stores or buying off the internet.
I used to live in Newport. My father in law is still there and he gets those cheap 400g balls from shaws. Not bad for £2 lol
I use them for making toys .
Rita
I made my first blanket from that stuff, it’s not bad. My cat liked sleeping on it and we’ve never had it back. Where in Newport did you live?
I lived in underwood,LLanmartin and then had a house in rogerstone where morrisons is.
Loved it there. but had yo move back to london because of husbands work.
We visit often so my son can see his grandad.
I live by Tredgar park just off j28. Next time your down you could pop in. I’d love to meet a fellow kf fan. If your son is a fan of Dr Who, he would be able to meet Rosco, our fully functioning life sized Dalek.
Thanks Nobones.
I might take you up on that offer . He would be really made up.
Rita

Hi folks!
I’m in the countryside near Aberdeen, and haven’t found a single soul who wants to knit and chat. Boo hoo!
As for shops, well, not one that I know of other than John Lewis in Aberdeen 30 miles away! I would highly recommend to anyone in the UK looking for good prices on yarn to shop on Ebay. I know that the online market is killing local shops, but I don’t have any local knitting or craft shops so rely on the internet. I’ve bagged some unbelievable bargains off Ebay. I also subscribe to Simply Knitting magazine and in the back they list tons of online or mail order shops. I sometimes buy from Kemps because they have terrific sales on Sirdar yarns. Anyone interested in chatting in tartan? :woot:
Hello Knit knot
I am in Edinburgh…I would be very happy to knit and chat.
I moved to Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire from Los Angeles about 4 months ago and have had a difficult time finding a decent wool shop since I arrived. I did find a nice shop in London and have heard of a couple of others:
http://www.woolsandcrafts.co.uk/ …run by a very nice lady who is very helpful. The shop is very well stocked and there are often a couple of bins of wool on deep discount.
I’ve heard that Liberty’s on Regent Street and Loop in Islington(near the Angel Tube stop) are both nice though I’ve not yet been to either of them.
I mostly stock up when I go back to the US once a month. It’s a lot cheaper out there and there’s no shortage of good wool shops there. It’s the one thing I miss about the States ::sigh::
