Any tips for a new drop spindle spinner?

Do any of you have any tips or advice for a new spindle spinner???

Thanks for any response!!!

This is fabulous:

Just relax. I mean your back. I would find myself so engrossed in my spinning that I would not manage my posture and pay for it all night long. Of course that could apply to just about any activity.
Just a thought.

Thanks for the tip and the site. I just got my spindles today and I am worried about trying it. Silly, eh? samm

What worked for me was to park and draft first. it totally helped.
I started with a turkish spindle and hated it (still have not touched it since)…so I made my own and I still use it to this day.
once you do a few hundred skeins of park and draft you will be amazed how you just “get” it.

Predraft your fiber first. It should slide out from the bunch easily. If it doesn’t you will end up getting very frustrated while trying to spin. Practice park n draft first, as whimzypinzy said. Once you learn to draft nicely, move on to drop spindling.

And don’t forget why it’s called a drop spindle. It will drop. Many times. Don’t give up. It’s kinda like learning to ride a bike. You’ll be awkward at first and get frustrated, but sooner or later, it will just click, and you’ll be making yarn.

lmao and still will once you know what you are doing, because on child will always run up to you with some issue and you take your mind away for a minute then you hear BOOM… the spindle hits the floor lol lol lol
