Any Sock KAL

Hey Socksters

It has been crazy here today…well not really here but in WV and I’ve been on the phone most of the day :teehee:…my brother wrecked my dad’s truck soo he called in a panic and then mom called…then ray called…then mom called saying she can’t come up this Wed cause her truck needs a new radiator so it will be next week…then my brother came up missing…dad came home and more phone calls :teehee:

Sig~My brother has the wrist bands and they worked for him too…I’m not one to get car sick…but going home we have to go up Gauley Mountain we live at the top…I can’t knit going up it nothing but curves this way and that… I tried once and then had to ride the rest of the way with my head out the window :teehee:

jamadian~Great job!! I love that pattern :happydance:

jeanius~Very Pretty!!! I ordered the yarn today for snowflake socks and noticed that KP raised the Merino sock yarn? or did I just dream it was cheaper? I bought enough yarn for the socks, another pair of socks, and mittens so I skipped the blanks for now… :teehee:

Cinnamon_girl~ I’m surprised it didn’t come out the same I really would have thought cutting it to match would have worked… I’d say if it bothers you then frog it… I’m a lot like you and people will say leave it only you see it…but it’s me who has to like it so I always frog it… my first baby afghan was so full of holes (I was just learning) that I was going to frog it all and dh was like no you can’t it’s your first afghan… leave it so you can see how far you have come later on… I had to knit flowers and butterflies to cover those crazy holes…they drove me crazy :teehee:

ladyviolet~ I think I remeber reading you were wanting to try the Cookie Potamous socks… they are really fun to knit and the pattern is easy to memorize… I basically had to do the pattern backwards cause I messed up on my first sock… I did the opposite on the cuff I think a K1, P1… I couldn’t figure out for the life of me why when I got to the patter it wouldn’t match up and why I was the only one having to re-write it… then on my 2nd sock I realized what I had done but had to do it the same as the first…still easy!!

dotty~ I can’t wait to see your quilt…they are all so beautiful!!

jberry~ I’m sorry I confused you… I need to take time to slow down and proof read… I just type it and hit send and hope it sounds ok :teehee: unless dh is reading over my shoulder and then it’s ā€œdo you know what a period is?ā€ " do you know blah blah" (he is just teasing) I tell him… yes but I have a lot to say and not sure when the next mommy, I need you will come… so I have to hurry up and post!!

Okey dokey I’m going to go and see if I can knit for a bit…I really wanted to start the lovemeknot socks today… ohh and then I found these(pdf file)which I ordered the yarn for today from KP…they are illusion socks with cats :woot:

Illusion cat socks!!! :woot: Those are so neat!

And thanks for presenting a very reasonable argument for loving my unique socks jberry16!!

It’s been a long day, not as crazy as yours dustinac! Hope all is well at home with your family.

I think I will go to bed and sleep on it.

'Night all. :waving:

dustinac: didn’t know I was confused. I do under stand the "mmmmmmoooooooom! … " I usually don’t punctuate like I should, or spell. lol

 thanks for the compliments!
jberry- i did dye it myself, i used the Bare fingering superwash/nylon from Knit Picks, and jacquard acid dyes

dustina- i think the merino did go up a little bit, maybe it used to be $3.99? it’s been a while since i bought the bare, and i always get the stuff with nylon (except my lace order … stinky silk :zombie:) so i am not sure. I am planning on doing some research and maybe starting an etsy shop.

Good mooorning…!!! :waving:
Cinnamon_girl i think your socks looks great, if it was me i’ll keep knitting them.

jberry~ :teehee: I stay confused…always having DUH! moments… I thought I had confused you about the scarf and the blog I had posted… after I read your post I went back and edited my post cause it did read wrong…

I keep thinking I’ll start a blog but haven’t yet…

sig~ Good Morning :waving:

jeanius~ I think you should… I would buy the 2nd color :teehee:… I had thought about it but then wasn’t sure what I could do different to set myself apart from the others on etsy… I basically dye for family and friends… I’ve only kept about 3 colors for myself

cinnamon_girl~thank you… my brother is ok we just can’t find him :wall:…he is married and out on his own but was borrowing dad’s truck… he was in a panic which I’m not sure why cause all dad would have been worried about was everyone ok… but last I talked to him he was out to find money to pay for everything and wouldn’t understand the insurance fact when I tried to explain that… wouldn’t calm down long enough… so I don’t know what he is into or has been into… I’m starting to wonder if a little covering up isn’t what he is up to but I don’t know why or what he would be doing that for… but oh who knows…:hair:

Hopefully today I can knit my socks :woot:… I really liked those cat ones lol I ordered some black and white yarn to make them in…:happydance:

Hello Socksters! :waving:

If anyone is looking for inspiration (or like me just likes to collect patterns) I just ran across this one

Scallops Cuff Socks

A nice lacy cuff with a plain stockinette bottom.
I’m putting this in my queue…enjoy!

P.S. My baby cable rib socks are coming along nicely, but with previous socks, the cuff tends to loosen over time, and the socks end up slouching. I’m knitting these cuffs shorter this time to see if that helps. What do you ladies do to keep your socks from slouching??

I’ve only made one pair of socks, but most of the sock from heel to cuff (toe-up) is ribbing. They stay up really well.

I have noticed that it’s the socks that I make from Merino Wool that tend to stretch out and not stretch back, during a wearing ! I wore my Kaylees today, for only a little while, and now they’re stretched out, flat looking. It makes me want to wash and block them, but they’re not dirty !
That’s why I love that Chinese wool I buy from here… http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5177616&section_id=5107874

The socks start out stretchy and STAY that way !:notworthy:

Hey socksters!!:waving: i finally took some pics of my BF socks. Yoy can see the holes… i hope this time i can knit them better. But i think that for my first toe up socks trying ML they did turn out ok.

Me again, heres a pic of the socks i’m knitting for my dad. Next pair i’m going to try a ā€œpatterā€ for socks.

Sig~ They look great!! :woot:

jamadian~ I really haven’t gotten to wear all my socks yet I started late last winter… my first pair is stretchy too… they were a sock with no pattern but the K1, P1… I don’t really do a long cuff top before I start the pattern…I usually stick with a inch of cuff cause I was hoping that might make a change  I have no idea though if this will work… it’s starting to cool down here now so I will be able to wear them finally :blooby:… now to find a shoe to show them off in lol

dotty~ does she (the Chinese yarn) usually ship fast? I bought from her last Thurs/Friday and it still hasn’t shipped… I hope soon so I can get the yarn :teehee:

ok so after the baby purple socks I’ve torn out the patterns in my purple socks several times, and have put them away. But am thinking of tearing it out again (sigh) and try the pattern above Scallops Cuff Socks from jamadian75. my gague is 9 spi and that calls for 8spi, but after reading that merino stretches out, maybe that will be ok? what’s y’alls opinion? I’d really like to have matching socks with my second dd like I did with my first dd; thanks to the sockintine sock swap last year, that was so special.

dustinac, SHE ships fast, but her post office seems to have problems dragging their feet ! The first time I ordered, she sent it on April 13, by priority mail, and I didn’t get it until April 24…she and I were in constant contact, and she was ready to go to the post office to see what she could do, when it finally came. That was right after a big snowstorm blanketed the east, so we blamed it on that. The second order I placed came in 2 days…and the third order took a week. I am sure it is not HER…she’s very accomodating. I’m searching through the couch cushions myself, looking for enough spare change to try to buy that snack pack of hers !:roflhard:

Nice socks, sig ! We’re going to have those men in some colorful socks yet !

sig- you did such a great job matching up your stripes!

jamadian- i think maybe going down a needle size might help the saggy sock problem?

dotty- i almost order some of that chinese wool. i was thinking of the two tone natural and dyeing it up just for fun!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dottycam/480837345/in/set-72157594397200980/ The one called two-tone natural, actually reads very much like a light grey. It might look very interesting when dyed.

I’ve been trying to figure out what colors I could overdye them with, too, since I have already knit myself socks out of the pink and the darker green. The orange one might be interesting with red added to it.

jberry, why are you tearing out the patterns you’ve knit…what’s going wrong? Just don’t like the looks of them in that yarn? Or sizing?

jeanius80 - I love the dyed yarn you made. The blue is just beautiful. It looks like it’s glowing in the pic you posted. I looked up the Snowflake Sock pattern you said you will use that yarn for and I love it! I’ve bookmarked that page to try it in the future. The Embers are beautiful and I would love to see that yarn wound into a ball if you could post a pic later. I’m really curious to see how dyed work like that looks wound up and then of course knit. All the little steps in the process… That would be neat if you started an Etsy shop. Just make sure it’s worth the time you spend for what you are selling it for. I can spend hours upon hours working on one project and then I think if I was to sell this, I would be making a $1.50 per hour or whatever… I can’t imagine parting with some of my projects that I put so much hard work into.

cinnamon_girl - I know I’m probably posting too late. You’re most likely already happily knitting along after deciding to frog it or leave it, but I liked the change in the pattern. I think jberry16 is right, ā€œJust think of it as their personality.ā€

Dustinac - The Alice’s Illusion Socks you posted look really cool. Have you ever done illusion knitting. Is it complicated? I would like to try it, I’m just scared of using 2 colors at once. I feel like I need to go take a knitting class to learn that. BTW, I hope everything with your family straightens itself out soon. Also, I saw your post that you need to find a great shoe to wear your socks with. I love the style right now with all the low cut flats, so I bought a pair of these in black a little while back: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/25307258/c/108689.html and absolutely love them. When I wear them without socks they are low cut all the way down to where my toes begin, so I can’t wait to get all of my lovely socks knit up and wear these shoes with them to show off the instep.

sig - Your first pair of socks turned out fabulous!! I have a few holes in my ā€œfirstā€ sock (not pair yet, lol). At least your BF will get some extra ventilation when needed. Did you knit your first pair 2 at a time as well? I heard that’s hard. Love the colors on the second pair.

I posted the other evening that I only had a few hours to get some knitting in, and I didn’t really work on any socks. I grafted the toe on my first sock that I’m giving to my DD and I decided to make a flower out of Nicky Epstein’s Knitted Flowers book for the short cuff. Then I got so entranced by all the beautiful flowers in the book that I started making some of the ones I liked. I now have 3 flowers made up and one of them went on the cuff of the sock and the other 2 I dunno what I’ll do with them yet. I have my Rainy Day sock at work with me that I am working on during breaktimes. I have 4 repeats of the pattern done so far, and 8 to go before I reach the heel. I’ll check back with you Socksters later. -Ve

jberry, maybe you should just try a good stretchy design ! The Lacy Mock Cable Socks I made are basically the same stitch pattern as the Donyales (which is why I’m leaning toward the Eleanors…don’t want to repeat myself yet), and they are very stretchy…without using stretchy yarn like the Chinese wool. And the gauge on the Donyales is just what you’re getting…8 stitches to the inch !
