Any Sock KAL

Thanks Dotty, I vote for DONYALE!!!
Think I may try doing some cableing on my purple socks. I’ve got the toe done and just need to figure out what I want to do on the foot/cuff.
Does anyone own any of the Stitchonary books? What do you think of them?

Oooh! I like the Donyale too! Looks FUN to knit!

i have the first book. i do like it, there are no charts, so for me it’s great. i did find an error in the eyelet hearts (that i used on my nieces birthday socks) but it was a simple fix that i caught on the very first repeat.

that’s my vote too! they are so pretty.

right now i have to finish my dh socks, a pair of socks i started (plain stockinette… i think for now. i might make them a pattern…) then i need to knit my nieces yellow socks (tube socks to make it easy…):zombie:
then, finally, i can frog and restart my jaywalkers. that yarn is so pretty, and it makes me sad that they ae languishing. I am going to go up a couple sizes (2.5/3US). and switch to toe up.
anyone have a favourite short row heal tutorial or should i stich with heel flaps? for some reason short row heels scare me :shifty:

dotty, I vote for Eleanor or Rain day socks. I guess i’m not much help…

I’m using US 2’s for my jaywalkers and they fit me great! I’m using KP bare yarn that I dyed. i thinking of doing the 2nd sock toe up but I don’t get this:

Toe
Using your prefered provisional method, cast on 32 (36, 38, 42) st. Using your prefered short-row method, short row down to 10 (10, 12, 12) stitches, and back up to 32 (36, 38, 42). Pick up your provisional cast on. Don’t forget to pick up a stitch at one of the sides to make up for the fact that you lose a stitch with the provisional cast on.

I just can’t picture in my head how you would use the short row method like that.

:passedout: the wedding is over…I didn’t get the shawl done…I can’t say I didn’t try cause I’ve been working on it every chance I get and staying up to the wee hrs of the night all long…only one edging to go and after staying up till 3am on Saturday…sleeping for four hours and working on it till 10… I had to accept it wasn’t going to happen…I was dragging by last night…was in bed early and slept through till 9am which I never do :teehee:… I have a friend who’s b-day is soon so I might finish it and give it to her…

I haven’t been able to catch up… I did the see poll on socks… the donyale socks they look like the ones I just finished out of SKS for my grandmother… I like all the patterns…I’m resting my wrists today and will get back to sock knitting tomorrow… Illusion knitting here I come… I’m using left over yarn so I hope I have enough…

dotty…I decided to wait on the colorway cause she is going to have a super wash in it this week for me to look at woohooo…

ohhh and Amelia is for sale the scarf I test knitted on Catherine Kerth’s website… we were talking names and I told her how bad I am at names…and how my daughter was easy cause she was named after both my grandmother’s and Amelia Earhart…she liked Amelia and named the scarf that… :happydance:

Here is the link in case you guys would be interested it is a really nice knit and if you get the cashmere she has, it is HEAVEN to knit with…i make nothing from the sales just really enjoyed making the scarf and Catherine is very sweet, I just met her as well with this test knit

Here is her website

I went to look at the book at our local barnes and noble and they have them all 3 editions 50% off, couldn’t pass it up. However I really only wanted #1 and that’s what I got, 265 different st patterns! I also love it b/c they’re written out instructions, no charts. Cant read a chart to save my life, love to learn, but I have a brain block or something. I can do counted cross stitch easy, but can’t read knitting charts-go figure. What was the ‘oops’ you found in the hearts, b/c that’s one of the ones I plan on trying first?
Use Silvers on her two at a time toe up, very easy to understand, I was scared too and now I love doing them!

Dustinac:
Amelia is SO pretty! so is the top you knit, what a great summer top! Where’d you get the pattern?
sorry you got layered hair, I’ve done that before; have yet to find ‘my’ perfect hair style.

Thank you!! The website is Catherine Kerth who designed Amelia… I really liked the tank too :happydance:

Hello Socksters:muah:! I did not had time to knit during the weekend. We went to madrid, had a great time, i thought i could get some knitting done while i was in the car… well, no… i’ve got dizzy…:ick::zombie:
…dotty… i’ll be dyeing during the week, i’ll let you know how it turns out… (:twisted:i’ll say hello from ‘the other world’) :chair:

That’s my vote! (And it’s also now in my queue too). :teehee:

Hi Sig!
I used to have this trouble with car sickness, and I discovered these motion sickness wristbandsthat really work! I hope you’re able to get them over there…very easy to wear and can be tucked into your knitting bag so you never miss a moment to knit

So I’ve finally cast on for a pair of socks so that I can “officially” feel part of this knit-a-long…although just reading what you all are up to is fun in itself.

I’m doing the Baby Cable Rib pattern from Sensational knitted socks. My in progress picture doesn’t show the actually baby cables yet, but you can see that I’m using Koigu KPPPM in color # 400 - In my opinion the yarn is more purple than this picture represents.

I’m knitting these up on KnitPicks circulars Size 2 (2.75mm) and doing 2 at a time cuff down.

okay, i think i get it now. what doesn’t really make that much sense will probably click as i move ahead in the tutorial. i fell like i’m learning a new language! :teehee:
i knit the first instep stitch, and it surprisingly closed right up. it just looked like there was going to be a hole there. so right now i’ve got 17 picked up sts. (i picked up an extra stitch right at the beginning to hopefully eliminate that hole at the heel, so in my mind it seems like i should pick up another so i’ll have the 17 sts for my heel flap plus the extra at the heel. but i’m just gonna go with the 17 i have and do the same on the other side, and see what happens.)

i needed to do an extra row for the flap because the tutorial says to have 32 rows. you’re actually knitting 31 (ending with a RS row), but it looks like 32. my wonderful brain twisted the numbers and forgot that i only needed to knit 31. i knit 32 and ended with a WS row, so i had to add another row to end with a RS row. i’m writing down my sock a row at a time so i know what i’m doing, but for some reason i didn’t knit on it for a few days and by the time i got back to it, i had completely forgotten. one of these days i’ll remember that if i think i’ll remember something important, that automatically means i won’t!

Thanks, i’ve seen these before, do they really work? I’ll try them.

These socks are all so amazing! I’d be more specific but I’m so awful at replying to a bunch of things at once.
And the Kaylee’s are now on my list too, they’re beautiful and you did a wonderful job on them!

I got all the way to one round before the end of the toe on my 2nd Breeze sock and realized that I had knit the entire thing on THE WRONG NEEDLE SIZE! Oh I could not even believe I had done something so very stupid. :wall: :frog: So I’ve cast on for that one again. Thank goodness those are such a quick knit otherwise I think I wouldn’t even bother at this point.
Seeing all these amazing socks keeps me going so thank you ladies!

That’s the way I do MY toe up socks…:teehee:…it’s just like doing a short-row heel, except you do it on the caston stitches, and then pick up the ones on waste yarn ( after you’ve knitted all of your wrapped stitches), and start knitting around for the foot !

Sorry I’ve been ‘missing in action’, but I’m piecing that quilt top, and must finish since it’s all over the living room floor ! I’ll get back to socks in a day or two, but I’m still catching up on this thread when hubby scoots off of the 'puter. I think he’s been thrilled to have me occupied and off of it for a few days !

I’m really leaning toward knitting ‘Eleanor’, but am trying to be patient until my other circular and my Bare yarn come ! :tap:

(still scared of short row heels) I just put up some pics of my latest KP sock yarn dye job in the dye forum, but I’ll repost here too  The blue “Winter” will be used to make the snowflake socks in the IK Fall 07 for my mom.

Not sure about the other yarn, “Embers”, Monkeys maybe?

Hi Socksters!!

Wow… those are really beutiful jeanius80. I LOVE the shading in the blue, it’ll be perfect for the snowflakes and that Embers is just crying out Monkeys!!

I just posted a cry for help on the question board but maybe you all can listen to my whine too… and offer a solution or maybe some 'constructive criticism. I think I can take it.

I’m knitting the second sock of a pair using schoeller & stahl Fortissima Socka in a self-striping faux fair isle pattern. It’s only my second pair so not alot of experience here.

After much consideration I decided that I’d like my socks to be twins… yes, paternal twins, not fraternal twins. With the fair isle patterning it just seems like it should (to me anyway). I know, trying to rationalize my OCD tendencies here!!

So, I started off and did my best to start my cast on with the same color sequence and just when I was beginning to feel pretty good about it… the cream/green color change went haywire. I didn’t notice at first, until I took a break and when I compared them… argh!!! I’ve spent more time this evening than I like to think about googling and searching for a solution. My LYS where I bought the yarn is open late tonight so I’m stuck and turning to you KH’ers for help!!

Should I keep going and live with it, knowing I’ll never buy faux fair isle again or is there a way to finagle it without frogging entirely. Or should I just rip now since I’m not too far along. Or should I just shut up and go to bed hoping it’ll look better to me in the morning. help
Thanks.

Jeanius80, i love the Embers, a very unique colour tone.

CG, i love the colour of your socks too.

cinnamongirl, I wouldnt worry about it, I think it was lornas laces website that showed the same yarn knit by 2 different people showed up differently, just like your two socks are doing. Just think of it as their personality. No two people are the same, and neither are two socks, not hand knit ones. Even identical twins don’t have the same personality-I know from personal experience (no I’m not a twin) but I think you should leave it and look at it in the morning. If it REALLY bothers you then change it, if not then don’t worry about it. They still match except in that part. Do you think anyone will notice?

Jeanius80, I love the ‘winter’ and the embers is really neat. Did you color those yourself? What’d you use?
