I am half way done the decreasing for the toes. Update in a coouple of hour or so, when I finish and can post a picture!
go The.Knitter go The.Knitter go The.Knitter go!!! :woohoo:
that’s really cool! I love the little cables!!! :cheering:
I finished Dh’s sock today! & co 4 #2!!!
No Dustina I didnt get my pattern :o( maybe tomorrow- I hope! I’m ready…
Welcome new socksters & I’m all about knitting during the game!
Dustina, those snowflake socks rock! :cheering: I’ve yet to venture into 2 color knitting… I’m intimidated by it :oo:
I’m using Primo from Filatura Crosa for socks. It’s superwash (line or dry flat) worsted. It’s onsale here.
Get the grab bag and make contrasting heels, toes and cuffs. Super cheap!
I am so excited to find a thread focused on socks - my new passion. At the suggestion of a cousin I got Getting started Knitting Socks by Ann Budd and jumped in knitting. My previous experience many years ago was learning the knit and purl stitch - end of story. I just found KnittingHelp yesterday and this is my first post after spending so much time on the site I haven’t gotten much knitting done!
I loved your socks Steve and got my book out to find that pattern - it is earmarked for my next pair.
I am using 5 DPN and love them. I get so motivated when I get to the end of each needle it keeps me moving along, just one more needle. What fun!!
I keep hearing the term colourway. Is that a term that indicates yarn with a variety of colors?
I finished my sock. I ACTUALLY FINISHED THE SOCK AND IT LOOKS LIKE … A SOCK!!!
Ok, so here are a few pictures of DH test driving his new sock. I let him wear the sock just long enough to take pictures and make sure that it fits him.
Here are the pictures of MY FIRST KNITTED SOCK!
I am sorry picture number three is so dark. I was trying to show the heel off, but it did not want to show up too well. Anyways, this is the sock, my very first attempt.
Thanks for looking!
Theknitter, your sock looks really nice.
As for the panda cotton, I haven’t used it yet, but if I’m off my yarn diet, I think I’ll try it. It’s a pity they don’t have just white, so I can’t dye it.
My moms socks were finished, but when I tried if I could get them on for a picture, the bind off was to tight. Now I’ve got them back on the needles and I’ll knit a few rounds more, so I’ve got enough yarn to bind off and then I’ll bind off.
What is the best method for binding off toe-up socks? I’ve tried the standard bind off and the decreased bind off which were both to tight.
Here’s the first sock of my second pair! They’re for the DBF and they’re knit out of Austermann Step (he’s so spoiled). The pattern is “Just yer basic sock” that I found on Ravelry with slight variations. I liked this pattern except that the heel isn’t reinforced so I’m not sure how it will wear and the toe is soooooo pointy. It still fits pretty well. I’m going to cast on for the second one today.
That is a great looking sock. Congrats! Yes, your man is spoiled, just like mine. Keep up the good work.
I CO my second sock this morning and am ready to start knitting. I have two weeks until Valentine’s Day so I am not stressed. I will have no trouble getting it done, barring any complications. The first sock was CO on Saturday of a week ago, so it took me one day less than a week. Keeping in mind that was my first sock ever, this one should not take as long (I hope).
:blooby: Good Morning Socksters!!
Julie~ :woot: YAY on finishing up dh’s sock!!
Jodi~Thank you…You should give 2 colors a try… and really this pattern I think is a good starting place…you are knitting with a dk weight and size 2 needles…the pattern is very well written …It was in Interweave’s Fall issue…
LGM~ :woot: Welcome to the KAL …that is what I consider a colorway…but I often wonder if I’m wrong :teehee: …in the wip/fo forum you will see me say pretty colorway…then next time pretty colors
The.Knitter and Knitgal~ :woohoo: Great jobs!!
Lieke~ I have that problem too…I thought dotty posted a new way in the old KAL but I couldn’t find it…I looked it up on google and found a lot different ways…here is one from wendyknits
Carla~ Guess what? They had an opening in SAM5 so I get to join :yay:
I had my sockamania pattern waiting on me this morning…it’s so pretty… I want to CO now…but I need to start hedgehogs and finish mittens  …
I hope you all have a great day of knitting!! :blooby:
Guess what the DBF said when he put on his sock?
"It feel like lingerie for my feet"
HAHAHAHAHA!!!
I don’t think he realises that most lingerie is not made for comfort , just style!
Ok so I’ve decided after talking to the ped. last night that she’s ok, and she meant that she didn’t want to see us sick anymore. I asked her last night.
Ok so I got my sockintine pattern and am soooooooo excited!
Lieke, this is the sewn toe up cast offthat was from the first kal thread (I think)
Got errands to run today and then hopefully I can knit through the superbowl!
Tell him most lingerie is made from silk or satin or some nasty nylon, but his socks are made from wonderful, warm, soft and cozy wool. I think he gets the better of this deal!
Julie~ That’s great that you guys were able to talk!! Check out the Sockamania blog for an error on Chart Row17…
Knitgal, your sock looks really great.
Thanks dustina and jberry, I’ll check both cast off methods out when I’m ready. Hopefully they’ll be stretchy enough.
Leike, here’s another method from Silver with a good tutorial. I’ve used it. Do it loosely and you’ll be all set!
how is everyone doing today? I’m going to finish up some stuff online then try to finish Jaywalker 1 today.
Ohhh, the jaywalkers! I definitely want to make these. How are you finding them?
