No Christine, I think it is perfectly alright to ask for it. You made that shawl to give her comfort and now you need the comfort. They would probably give it to you anyways, so maybe you can just tell Frank to put the word in for you?
That is strange that she was still there when you got there, but nice that Frank got to say goodbye. I don’t feel like I truly got to say goodbye to my mom- so I am envious of that closure.
I hope you are both holding up okay.
So sorry, Ann, and Christine, about your losses.
I was away for those 31 years I spoke about in my last post, with no contact at all with family. I have learned that both my mother and father , and my grandmother, died while I was away. These are the first holidays, Mother’s and Father’s days, since returning, and birthdays for each also, so I understand your pain, although yours is much fresher. Decoration Day this weekend will be difficult here, but I feel the need to honor them. I send you love and prayers, too.
mornin all…got lots to do today, goint to Grandmas this afternoon to visit a bit but I also need her help pining the bridesmaid dress so I can alter it so it will fit better than a darn tent.
Ann are you still working on your shawl?
CHristine I’d ask for it in a heartbeat & the lamp too.
Julie- I finished my shawl, but the usb I use to transfer the pictures in broken so I need to get a new one and then the shawl can be seen! It’s really soft and pretty, I love it. P.S. You look gorgeous in that picture!
Dotty- I don’t think anyone can ever compare pain or grief- I’m sorry about your losses too.
Thanks Ann. Brian took that on Saturday, I was sunbathing, in the shade, and the kids were running through the sprinklers…great start to summer!
I can’t wait to see your shawl; think I’d read about your USB not working, that’s too bad. I’m sure its very pretty & super soft & comforting.
Lieke sorry I missed the post about your new job, congratulations! :woot: Hope it’s everything you’ve wanted.
Sorry to hear you’re in pain. Take it easy:hug:
Christine, I think it’s normal for you to want it back. It’s something she has worn and loved and it’ll be great to remember her as she sat there wearing it. Take care:hug:
Julie, you look great in your avatar-picture!
I still can’t really believe I’ve got a job, and exactly what I want either. I’m really lucky.
Lieke Congratulations!
Dotty, YAY for your driving!!! I can’t imagine 31 years without contact with family. I’m so glad you’re back in contact!
Carey, you got a smart one there!!
Sue, hope your pain is gone soon.
Jess, CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR GRADUATION!!!:balloons: And the new friend?!?
Lieke, CONGRATULATIONS ON THE JOB!!!:balloons: Prayers answered!!
Christine, your DH should by all means ask for it.
Julie, your new avatar is cute!
Work today was it’s usual crap. Roaches crawling all over the first house, the 2nd child was not very responsive, the 3rd wasn’t home and the 4th was scheduled for half an hour longer than she can tolerate. UGH. At least with the 3rd one out, I got to run a couple of errands. We’re celebrating DD’s birthday today since it’s the only day until late July that we’ll all be home and she turns 21 while in Italy. So after work, I made an Orange Pop Cake (her fave) and I’ve got fajitas marinating. She should be home around 7.
I got my yarn from ColourMart and it’s a lot thinner than I expected. Online it said “Heavy DK”, but it’s more like fingering. They use a different yarn weight system than I’m used to. I got a really nice email back from Richard offering to take care of it in a number of different ways. It looks like they have really good customer service, so I’ll figure out what I want to do. Right now, I’m knitting a swatch with it doubled. The color is lovely, so if I like it, I may just order more.
Oh Gina, I didn’t forget about your question, but I have been mulling it over! I don’t know if you want to hear my dating advice :roflhard:
I think that generally many kids in high school take themselves too seriously. They think they’re going to marry their first love. In my experience (and my friends) that doesn’t happen often. Once they go to college it’s good to date a few people and see what they like and want in a partner- and have fun! I also think it’s really good for someone to be single for a while because you really get to know and like yourself and in order to be in a relationship you have to like yourself.
When I was in high school my boyfriend and I weren’t allowed alone together at all. Someone’s parents always had to be there. This was good in many ways, but it doesn’t really stop anything that you think is going to happen. Teens have their ways!
Just checking in here.
No progress on socks so far. I’m going to Italy soon, so hopefully there will be some sock knittin’.
When do you go to Italy and what are you going to see?
Ann I have to agree with your ‘dating advice’ 100%…
:sun: Good Morning Socksters!
Dotty~YAY for driving again :yay:…I’m so glad that you are back with your family that would be hard going with out them and then learning of those who have passed…thinking of you during this time
Julie~love the new avatar picture :happydance:
Gina~ick sorry to read about the bad day…but YAY for cake and celebrating…that’s nice to hear that their customer service is good, I haven’t ordered from them but love looking at their stuff…:teehee:

Hi Chris, Carla, Lisa, Karina, Lady Vi, Mare, Steve, everyone!
I finished the shawl :woot:I’m so excited it’s done and pictures sent…and I have a gift for my grandmother for Christmas :teehee:
Now to finish up the bag for the LYS and then maybe I can swatch for the blanket we are suppose to start next month…
We have dance this morning and soccer later on but it’s windy here today and rainy so that might be cancelled…
I hope you all have a wonderful day of knitting :sun:
I forgot to tell you guys how the inspection went…over all it went very well but the inspector did have concerns over the age of the roof and the furnace…the furnace being his biggest concern but the couple we are buying from said they would take care of it either by putting in a new furnace or fixing it…assuring us that the only way they would just fix it is if they would be a long time fix…the roof we gotta wait and see on, it does have a few years left in it but with our loan the roof has to last 3 yrs…so if they feel it will not then we will split the cost of the roof with the sellers. So now we gotta wait on the water inspection it’s being sent off…and the septic inspection and the sellers told us last night they would pay to have the septic flushed out for us…and then the loan appraiser guy…:happydance:
Ann, thanks for putting down your thoughts. I agree wholeheartedly!
Rosalie, my DD is going to Italy on Sunday. Are you going with family or a school group? When/where are you going?
Chris, what are you knitting?
Dustina, YAY that the inspection went well and found possible issues that the seller will take care of. :cheering: I’m excited for you!!!
DD and I are running errands today to finish getting her ready for her trip to Italy. Do any of you know good yarn stores there?
Dustina that sounds pretty good! :woot: About the furnace, how old is it? We just got a new one, our’s was the original in the house from '74 & it was about as ineffecient as they get & we were worried about carbon monoxide. We got a Rheem & LOVE IT!!! Our house is 1600 sq ft. & we got the 100k BTU & it warms us out of the house in no time, we paid (out the door) $2600. Just to give you an idea. Roof, well that’s another story, we’ve been here 4 years and we had the same story about our roof & furnace, so we’ll maybe get to the roof next year? Depends on how things go, it’s rough but not leaking (yet) fingerscrossed
I haven’t had a chance to knit on my hemlock ring but I am up to 376 sts, so it takes about 10 min to get all around it, gotta make it up to 508 before I bo, hope I have enough yarn for that…
hope you all have a great day & get some :knit: done.
The couple we are buying from they built the house in '88 so everything was put in then…the inspector told JD last night he would worry about Carbon Monoxide with that furnace too
Gina how exciting for her tell her we want lots of pictures!! :happydance:
Julie I hope you get to knit today…
Ok I seen this on Ravelry that Mary had done for a teacher and want to do it for Isaiah’s…so I thought why not try the crochet coaster too…I’m stuck
I just worked around the 2nd round but mine is very open and lose…it’s not tight like the picture I think I’m dong the FPDC wrong since I don’t know much about crochet…any tips or pointers?
My ex-b/f and I were allowed to be alone together whenever and wherever we wanted (although I shocked my mom the time I admitted that his parents weren’t home all day when I’d been at his house…). My mom simply said, “I guess we figure that at this point, either we’ve taught you good morals, or we haven’t.”
That was kind of their life philosophy when I was in HS, though - they gave me 90% of all the freedom I could want, because in return they got 90% of all the respect they should want (and I’m a firm believer that neither of these things should be provided at 100% levels).
Alright, off to work! Have a good day everyone!
Dustina~That’s great about the house! Sounds like a nice couple that you are dealing with. Just one thought though…if the sellers are going to replace something for you, they might not choose the “best” option out there. Make sure it is of the quality that you would want.
Ann~Totally agree with you too on teens and dating. Younger DD went away to school (12 hours away) with the boyfriend at home. (we tried to advise against them staying together, but as parents, what did we know, lol) Counted down the days for when she’d be able to come home again. It didn’t last and during Christmas break, they broke up. She went back to school and said she had a lot more fun the second semester. Our DDs were not left alone either. The first question out of my mouth when they wanted to go to their BF’s houses was “Are the parents home?”
Gina~Your work conditions made my skin crawl. YUCK! How sad though that people/kids live like that. Sorry I’m no help on the Italy yarn shops. Hope DD has a good trip!
Christine~ Hope you are hanging in there.
Sue~Hope you’re feeling better soon!
Hi to everyone!
Well I better get somethings done. Pouring rain and windy here today. Hope you all have a great day!
Hey Friends,
Glad to see the boy/girlfriend discussions still going on.
Yesterday DD turned 14. The boyfriend gave her a white/pink rose and card at school. Didn’t see that coming!! The card has me more concerned than the rose. All of their friends, and us too, are amazed at how nice they treat to each other. I just wish they were older. I want to thank his parents for raising such a nice young man. He is the perfect first boyfriend and is treating her all the right ways so that her expectations will be high for future boyfriends. I’m calling him her Dean (Gilmore Girls). I’m so afraid this boy is going to break her heart.
Again, thanks for listening to a worried mommy!
