Hi, just got some new large needles and I am looking for a new project. I was thinking of a throw but I also knew someone that had a really nice thick scarf made on very large needles - it was only about 8 or 10 stitches across. Any patterns or tips you may have would be appreciated. Thanks!
Any patterns for size 50, 25mm needles?
You might try the Lion Brand site. They have patterns for size 50. I think they call them Speed Styx or something like that. Also, do a search for a “Hot Damn” afghan. It’s an old pattern but done on large needles.
You can use worsted or bulky weight and cast on about 8-12 sts and just do garter stitch for a scarf. Cast on about 18" worth and you’ve got a shawl. Most of the patterns for the large needles use worsted or bulky weight that’s stranded together - 2 to 4 ends at the same time. CO 60 sts and you’ll have a blanket in no time.
Ravelry.com has a couple of patterns for size 50 needles but you’ll need to make an account. Lion Brand also requires that you have an account to view patterns.
Lion Brand Yarn publishes a booklet called “Quick Knits with Speed Stix”. All 9 projects in it are made with size 50 needles. I also recommend going to the LB website and doing a search for “Speed Stix”.
Happy Knitting!
