Knitted about 6 sweaters with drops snow all on big needles think it was size 9, washed one. It just seem to absorb all the water tried being gentle but sleeves stretched 6 ins and so did body nightmare.
Also knitted an aran design in drops nepal took me weeks to knit am scared to wash after the drops snow sweater horror.
That’s an awful experience and not one you want to repeat.
Did you follow the care directions on the ball band or on the yarn page?
The directions for Drops Snow and Nepal seem to be the same. Laying flat to dry and shaping to the knitted measurements usually works but I don’t have experience with either yarn.
Did you use a wool wash? How did you dry the sweater?
That sounds so frustrating after all your hard work — it’s heartbreaking when a project doesn’t turn out as expected. Maybe try a gentle hand wash with minimal soaking next time, and lay flat to dry with careful reshaping.
Washed exactly same as icelanic sweater used same lab co wool wash but the drops snow sweater seemed to soak up a lot more water was very careful not to wring or be rough, laid it out to dry tried to shape it but still it stretched more of a dress than sweater now sad
That’s what I did think it was because it used such big needles was quick to knit 4 days but now wish I’d spent more and got the icelandic wool.
Am thinking I might have the aran sweater, knitted in nepal yarn, dry cleaned think I’d cry if that one stretched
I’m so sorry this happened. It sounds like you did all the right things. Good to know about a yarn to avoid however and lesson learned. Icelandic yarn makes a beautiful sweater and holds up beautifully to washing and drying flat.
Here’s to a better experience with the aran sweater.
Hello
Really sorry to hear your lovely sweater was ruined. It’s upsetting when that happens.
Have you contacted Drops/garnstudio about this? As you have washed as they describe you might reach out for their help and advice considering the result you got. They can’t fix your ruined sweater, obviously, but they may be able to help advise further about what caused it, and what to do with your other drops yarn sweater. I think it’s worth an email. I have found they respond within a reasonable time frame when I’ve been in touch.
Here’s their contact page, there’s an email address there
Too late for this to help, but for next time–did you wash and block your swatch? That might have revealed the yarn’s behavior and allowed you to knit a size that would work.
Thanks never thought of that
No just charged right in and knitted first sweater came out perfect size for me so knitted the others same size same pattern but in different colours. Am going try wash another drops sweater tomorrow different pattern but same big needles fingers crossed it doesn’t have the same fate!
If this next one stretches will stick them all in washing machine and felt them and try make a throw.
I recommend you contact the manufacturer. Tell them what’s happened. See what they say. ![]()
I’d advise sending a photo of the nightmare results after following their washing directions.
