I just taught myself the magic loop method of knitting in the round. I want to make these mitts. So, do I make a flat gauge swatch, or a knit in the round one? Probably a silly question but I’m honestly not sure. I’m almost positive I knit tighter ITR than I do knitting flat. Thanks!
Never mind, I found my answer, and a video!!! 
I maybe be burned as a heretic but I think I’d just start knitting them with the needles I think will work. By the time you get an in-the-round swatch done you will have done just about as much knitting. Alternatively, instead of starting two you could start one and if the cuff seems to fit, start the 2nd.
I know there is a video for swatching for in the round here but I can’t find it.

I’m kinda leaning towards just casting on and knitting them too. What the worst that can happen…I have to frog and start over? Cause I’ve never done that before :roflhard:
Frog? What’s frog mean? I have no idea what you’re talking about. 
Yesterday I frogged the socks I started. Today I restarted and frogged again. This start they are not getting frogged. I know, famous last words.

You might be interested in Kelley’s Mitten Class. I watched the videos when I first started mitts/mittens. She shows two kinds of thumbs in them.

That’s the video I wanted to link to but I was looking on-site. I never can find a video here when I want to. My main problem with the socks is lack of sleep leads to I forget to increase leads to my count is off and it’s faster to frog than tink. I’m just about done increasing so fingers crossed this time might be charm. Yeah, they’ve been making me crazier.
