Another person with pattern-related questions

I just started working on my first bag tonight (conviently I was about to start it when the Nov. KAL was put up:) ) and I just want to check something before I screw it up:P

Just for information purposes, I’m working on the gusset & handle.
The pattern reads:

Using 4 mm needles, cast on 18 stitches. Work in stocking stitch until piece measures 12 cm from beginning. Continuing in st st, dec one stitch at each end of next row and every 8th row until 10 stitches remain.

So after the 12cms, I would k 16 and k stitches 17 and 18 tog? (Obviously that’s just using k2tog, I’ve never done any other dec’s). Then the dec would land on a purl row correct? :
Row 2: P
Row 3: K
Row 4: P
Row 5: K
Row 6: P
Row 7: K
Row 8: P 15 sts p2tog stitches 16, 17?

One other part I’m a little unsure of, is do you dec on the end of each first row of the rep? Or was that just the first time?

If you don’t think k2tog or p2tog is well suited for this, I’m open to suggestions, I’m sure you all understand it better than I do:) Thank ya!

It says to decrease at each end, so you would knit sts 1 & 2 tog, as well as 17 & 18 on the first decrease row.

Or you could dec on sts 2 & 3 and 16 & 17–this would give you a nicer edge. Do this on row 1, 9, 17, and 25. Then it will be on the knit side each time.

Ingrid to the rescue again! What would I do without you?

I originally thought perhaps I was to dec in the beg. and end, but then I reconsidered, and obviously by my post, I decided I was wrong and changed my mind.

Thanks for the outline of what exactly to do… Now I’ll be able to keep knitting :XX:
