Anker’s Cardigan

Help, please! I am making the medium size in this sweater. Before I get to the raglan increases for the medium size, how many stitches should I have on the needles? Is it 313? If so, why do I have the double amount of stitches? lol

Also, please can someone explain this part to me:

Raglan increases

The rest of the yoke is shaped with raglan increases.

Divide the work into sleeves, front and back by placing the following markers on either side of each of the

4 raglan sts (a total of 8 markers) as follows:

7 (7) 7 (7) 7 (7) 7 sts (left front edge), 40 (42) 42 (51) 53 (55) 59 sts (left front), place marker, 1 raglan stitch,

place marker, 58 (60) 60 (74) 77 (73) 72 sts (left sleeve), place marker, 1 raglan stitch, place marker, 87 (91)

91 (109) 113 (117) 125 sts (back), place marker, 1 raglan stitch, place marker, 58 (60) 60 (74) 77 (73) 72 sts

(right sleeve), place marker, 1 raglan stitch, place marker, 40 (42) 42 (51) 53 (55) 59 sts (right front), 7 (7) 7

(7) 7 (7) 7 sts (right front edge).”

If I place these markers, I make it only to the middle or so of the cardigan

:frowning:

So confused…

Thank you kindly for your help!!

Welcome to the forum!

Friends have made the pullover verison of this sweater and it turns out beatifully.
Yes, you should have 313sts before placing the markers. The different parts add up to 313sts (7+42+60+91+60+42+7+4 raglan sts=313).

Make sure you started with the correct number of sts cast on. Go over the increase rows and make sure you haven’t repeated one of the later ones perhaps. The marker set up works with 313sts so if you have more sts the cardigan will be too large and the following stitch count won’t work.

Sometimes it helps to draw a diagram of the distribution of sts around the yoke to make sure you see the placement of all 4 raglan sts and the 8 markers.
