Hi everyone!
I’m a beginner in knitting and planning on knitting my first sweater. I have a question about the amount of yarn needed.
The pattern which I bought, says that the total amount of wool needed for a size S sweater is 500g (Aran/Worsted weight). I wanted to ask whether it sounds reasonable to you?
I don’t want to end up with less yarn that I actually need. However, since I plan to invest in good quality wool, I cannot afford buying lots of extra yarn…
Thanks!
Romi

What is the name of your pattern?
The amount of yarn depends on the type of sweater and the pattern stitch. For worsted weight yarn 500g is about 1000 yards but patterns often state length of yarn needed in addition to grams.
Thanks! The pattern is called “Puffy Chunky Sweater” by Gregoria Fibers. It says that the amount of yarn needed is 5-6 skeins of bulky weight yarn (a total of 500-600 meters).
Does it sound like a reasonable amount to you?
That’s about right. Of course, you should always add in an extra ball of yarn just in case. It saves a lot of anguish later.
Make sure to work a gauge swatch to determine your sts/inch. The amount of yarn and size of the finished sweater depends on it. Enjoy!
