A good friend of mine is having a baby (well he isn’t but his GF is, although as i have never met her, i think of it as him!).
I have known this for a few months now, but it suddenly hit me, Aaron is going to be a daddy!! I am not overly maternal, but i love my friend to bits and know he is realy looking forward to being a dad and raising a family.
I wnat to make them some baby clothes, but i am not sure what. I know i couldnt bring myslef to make some lacy pink cardigan, and to be honest i dont think they as parents would like it (He is a big heavy metal/rock fan and she is quite alternative).
I am definately going to make the converse booties for them, but any other ideas of ‘alternative’ baby clothing?
Sometimes just taking an ordinary pattern and changing the colors can make a huge difference in the way the finished garment looks. Some even lend themselves to using a chart or putting in some cool racing stripes.
THey are cute, but sadly i don’t get on with crochet. Last time i tried all hell broke loose (although there was a giant size Tobelerone, a bottle of Mead and a good firend involved :roflhard:).
If i have a good look at the construction, i may be able to figure out how to knit some.
Standard baby patterns (except for lace) in non baby colors. Multis, darker or brighter yarn.
Baby clothes can look modern and appealing by the clever use of colour and a nicely shaped and finished garment. I personally feel motifs and hats shaped like fruit or other unusually shaped items are strictly very much a personal preference thing. It might be safer to stick with simple, modern styles and rely on the use of colour to make the garment eye catching. There are some lovely up to date colour combinations that can be used. I like to keep an eye on what babies are currently wearing and what colours are being marketed in the popular baby wear stores, and use those ideas in my own knitting. Definitely no lace or pastels.
