Altering cable pattern for knitting in the round

Hey Y’all, I’m stumped and could use some help here.

I’m knitting a hat in the round with a cable pattern on it and I can’t figure out how to alter the instructions since I will only be working on the right side (RS) instead of turning the piece around like I would on straight needles

this is how the cable pattern is written:

1st row (RS) K1, [C2F] twice
2nd row P1, C2BW twice
repeat

So can anyone tell me what I should do with the second row when I’m working on the right side continously?? I’ve got myself all turned around here lol.

Ok, so my brain’s been going over this and this is what I’ve come up with to covert the flat pattern to a circular pattern for this cable:

1st row (RS) K1, slip next stitch in front, knit stitch, knit slipped stitch, slip next stitch in front, knit slipped stich
2nd row (still on RS now) slip stitch in front, knit stitch, knit slipped stitch, slip stitch in front, knit stitch, knit slipped stitch, K1

Do y’all agree that this would be equivalent to this for the second row on the wrong side:

P1, slip stitch in back, purl stitch, purl slipped stitch, slip stitch in back, purl stitch, purl slipped stitch ???

The thing that concerns me is that if I just reverse it completely I get this which seems impossible:

Knit slipped stitch, K1, slip stitch front, Knit slipped stitch, K1, slip stitch front, K1

When knitting in the round you’re always working on the RS so you would do your cables accordingly.

I read your post early this morning and it keeps popping into my head. I have been trying to wrap my brain around your “slipping the stitch” theory.

When you are working the cable, as Knitting Guy said, all the stitches are right side. So when you are knitting the right side and purling the wrong they all become knitted stitches. If the pattern calls for purl stitches on the front then they are all purl stitches.

Thanks everyone! I’ve never been a chart girl but finally learned to read them because it made reversing this pattern sooooo much easier. I was having trouble reversing the slipped stiches but when I saw it charted it all clicked in my head! Yay charts!!!:cheering:
