Allergic to wool, want a good cotton substitute

I love to knit sweaters, especially cable, but I am allergic to wool. Even if I wear a shirt underneath, it still itches me. I love the 100% cotton sweaters I buy. Almost all of the sweater patterns I like call for wool yarn. Is there a soft cotton yarn that won’t stretch out that I could substitute for the wool yarn a pattern calls for???

Are you actually allergic or just sensitive to it? Is it all animal fibers?

There is really a perfect substitute. I know because I’m extremely sensitive to animal fiber. What is it you want to make?

I guess I don’t know if my aversion to wool is an allergy or a sensitivity. I just know it itches me to death when I wear it. I don’t know of any other animal fibers that bother me. Here is a link to a couple of the patterns I’m considering.

I replied to this right away, but I didn’t do it correctly. Here’s my second try:

Those are both good looking patterns. I like the yoke construction and it’s fun to work, too.
You could try Classic Elite Verde for the 18sts/4inches and Berocco Karms for the 12sts/4inches. I haven’t used these particular yarns but I trust both manufacturers. The cotton blend is nice because it lightens the weight of the cotton and helps with shape.
