After BO on slipper cuff, how do I add yarn to knit foot bottom?

I am attempting to knit my first pair of slippers  . I found a cute pattern here called Cozy Whisper/Cotton Chenille Slippers. http://www.straw.com/cpy/patterns/cotton_chen_whisper_slipprs.html

The first step is to CO 24 sts and work in a rib for 3". I did that. Then I BO 6 sts, worked 12 sts in rib, BO remaining 6 sts. What I am left with is confusing to me. I have 12 stitches on a needle, having cut the thread after the final BO of the side 6 sts.

I am supposed to work the 12 sts on the needle for 5-7" (foot bottom) now. How do I work in a new piece of yarn?

Thank you for any suggestions you have to share

Leaving a tail long enough to weave it in, just begin knitting on the 12 sts. The first st may seem a little loose for a couple rows, but just pull the tail to tighten it up, it won’t pull out.
