Afghan with bag built in?

I am looking for a pattern that is for a afghan/blanket that when folded can become its own carrying bag. (I hope that I explained that right.) Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? Can anyone point me in the right direction to make one?

You could do something like a knitted version of a ‘quillow’ (lots of patts for those online). You could then incorporate or attach handles to the pillow portion. You’d carry the afghan in what looked like a tote. Seems like it’d be easy enough to do (as I see it in my head!).

Is that along the lines of what you had in mind?

ETA: found patt for knitted quillow linked on Rav

That is sort of what I had in mind. I am looking for an afghan, that when folded a certain way, becomes it’s own carrying bag. I have been trying to figure out a way to make something like this. We go camping a lot, and my one daughter is always cold. I hate having to carry a blanket so I was thinking of a way that I don’t have extra stuff to worry about (i.e. a bag). I know that I have seen something like this before…more so for regular blankets. But I can’t remember where or what they were called. Even if the pattern is for sewing, I would appreciate. I have converted sewing patterns into knitting ones before so I am not worried about that.

OMG!!! I just saw that you added a link. That is what I am looking for. That is great!!! Thank you so much!!

Kind of sounded like what you wanted. (You might check your local lib for that book.) If you sew, and have converted patts in the past, should be a breeze!

Post pics when you’re done. I’d love to see the FO.

BTW, my sis makes quillows from both quilted fabs and fleece, in various szs. Worked in the larger sz, they can be used like a seat cushion, as well.

these are mostly sewing/quilted ones, but should give you the basic idea of how to shape and how to do the ‘pocket’ for stuffing into.

We used to make beach towels with their own bag. Basically the pocket or bag part is 1/3 the width and length of the blanket. Straps or handles are attached to the pocket part and the blanket part at the same places. Attach the pocket and then to bag it, fold in the blanket, opposite of the bag/pocket, into thirds and fold up into thirds, then turn the whole thing inside out… the pocket will be one side of the bag/ blanket the other side! Hope this helps!
