I’ve made a blanket/afghan that is quite large and I used wool that is:
60% Merino
40% Baby Alpaca
But I can’t figure out how best to block it because it’d be too expensive to buy all the blocking mats needed to cover the entire edge…
Any ideas or suggestions for the best way to do it?
I’ve attached a photo of part of it in case the pattern matters for blocking.
This forum is amazing - I’m so grateful for you all!
Wow and double wow! That is a stunning blanket. Just beautiful work.
When I have something large to block, I vacuum the carpet and put down a flat sheet. I can usually spread the item out on the sheet and pin through into the carpet if necessary. If you don’t want or need to pin then just spread out to dry.
Wow, dont have a word to describe beauty I’m seeing, it takes my breath away. God bless you.
Dont have suggestions about blocking, but I do as Salmonmac describe for my small projects.
That’s a very beautiful blanket! I wouldn’t worry too much about stretching and pinning as those cable patterns look wonderful with a bit of 3- D squish. I’d give it a good soak to relax the stitches and spin dry in a duvet cover, and then lay flat. If you’re short of space, you could even lay flat on towels whilst folded and turn the work every few hours. Very well done!
My first thought was a sheet on the floor and I wasn’t the only one! I’ve read that sometimes knitting is spread out on the grass on a dry, warm day but I’ve never actually seen it done. What pattern did you use? That’s a stunning blanket!
