Adverts on every page?

What a shock this morning to open up knitting help and discover half the page covered in adverts.

Is this how the forum will be from now on?

It’s very distracting and disappointing. I know sites need to make money to be able to pay for upkeep but I am really hoping this is an anomalous glitch that will go away if I squeeze my eyes tight enough and look again.

Could it be your browser? I’m not seeing that either on the main KnittingHelp page or the forum page.

That’s a relief! It is good to know it’ just at my end and not a forum change.

I have not changed any settings whatsoever on my browser or device. I have checked my ad blocker is still turned on (I would not turn it off anyway, but in a situation like this one does check again) and have no idea what else I can do to go back to how it used to be.

Squeezing my eyes tightly shut also didn’t work.

I can only cope with this level of advertising for a brief time. It’s awful!

How very odd! I don’t see any ads at all, and my ad blocker says it hasn’t blocked any. It must be your browser. Can you clear your cache?

I have the app on my phone, saw your post and while clicking it a huge add got in my way and I selected it instead :face_exhaling:. Even while writing this I have adds going by at the bottom of the screen, blocking the reply button. I agree that money is needed, but it feels so invasive. Dark times.

I don’t find an app, but when I opened the Forum on my phone, there are the ads! And with no X to get rid of them! They do NOT show up on my laptop, in either browser.

I’ve tried all sorts to make these adverts stop. I have every setting “correct” (as in blocked, turned off, don’t track me and so on) but these ads persist, they are highly intrusive.

It’s google ads

@sheldon, can you shed any light on this please as it now turns out this isn’t just me but is happening for others too?

Thanks everyone for responding.

@PamPassarelli my reply button is also obscured by ads. I can manage to force the add down with an arrow on the left which is how I’ve replied but the next page is still covered again. Hopefully this is a bot or hack or ai or other gremlin that can be fixed. Fingers crossed!

@Sheldon

I rarely check the app on my phone, only to upload photos. Right now, I can’t log in on my phone. The ads cover the field where I would type. I’ve managed to enter my email, but have forgotten my password. I’ve requested a one-time code sent to my email, but never received it. I’ve also requested to change my password, and have not received that email either.

I’ve tried through both Chrome and Samsung Internet….no go. I’ve taken screenshots, but can’t send them as I can’t log on.

Luckily, everything works fine on my laptop!

Aha.i could sign in with Google. Will try to attach screenshot, though it’s hard when i can’t actually see most of my screen!

As you can imagine, these are not only annoying but confusing as well! “Create account”?? “Sign in to account”?? It makes it look like I’m not logged in, even when I am!

iphone or android?

I got ads as well on my tablet. Android.

Android.

Thanks for letting us know. I upgraded the forum last night around 6PM EST, and apparently, some built in ad plugin was enabled. It’s been disabled and those obnoxious spammy ads should be gone.

Many thanks, Sheldon!

Oh Sheldon, thank you! I thought I’d have to leave the forum for ever and now I can stay!

I did notice a few changes on the site too, which must be the upgrade.

I’m so glad I don’t have multiple massive close ups of Judy Finnigan or toe nail fungus in face any more.

Thanks for all your work.

Yeah, they’re gone now. Thanks, @sheldon! It was especially confusing that mine all had Log On buttons.

Thank you Sheldon
