I am a beginner knitter started knitting a vest which I would like to add long sleeves to to turn it into a sweater. Does anyone know how I can go about this? I have picked up all of the stitches (52) around the armhole, but I’m not sure how to add more volume around the shoulder area and less in the armpit.

Very nicely worked vest with lovely even stitches.
Decide what kind of sleeve you would like first, a set in sleeve with sleeve cap, a drop sleeve, whichever.
You want to work decreases from the underarm down to the cuff in order to taper the sleeve. Measure the length from the underarm to the wrist (or however long you would like to make the sleeve). Subtract the length of cuff ribbing to get the length of sleeve that will be tapered. Then knowing your row gauge you can decide where to place decreases (i.e. how many rows between decreases) to shape the sleeve.
