Adding pockets

I’m attempting to knit a cardigan for my daughter…all was going very well until I needed to add the pockets! The pattern is a king Cole one. When it comes to placing the pockets it states, patt 12, k19 and sl STS onto a thread, patt to end. The next row, patt 3, patt 19 from pocket lining etc. Now, having read previous posts I understand about adding the pocket but am stuck on the first row. Once I have the 19 slipped stitches how do I then carry on in pattern with the final three? Shouldn’t I turn and add the pocket then. Help!

Welcome to KH!
For the first row that you quoted, pattern across 12sts then knit 19sts. The working yarn will be at the end of the 19sts just knit. Slip those sts to a holder or spare yarn. With the working yarn, pattern across the remaining 3sts. This row will leave the opening for the pocket.

For the next row, pattern 3sts then work in pattern across the 19sts of the pocket lining. This will now fill in gap formed by the held sts.

What is the name or number of your pattern?

Thanks for the help. I’ll attack it in the morning! The pattern number is 4719.

Ok, let us know how it goes.

I’ve just completed the cardigan and I’m pretty pleased. Hopefully my daughter will be too! Thanks for the help with the pockets!

That’s beautifully done! I’m sure you’re daughter will love it and enjoy wearing it.
