Adding beads

I settled on the Irish Hiking Hat. I want to add beads to the cables. so that there will be a bead in the middle of the cable. Given the pattern, I do not know where to actually place the bead (I intend to put one between every other cable, then alternate on the next cable row)

The pattern is for a 6-stitch cable repeated 8 times. You could either place the bead on the 3rd or 4th stitch of the cable or in between the 3rd and 4th stitch to center it. You could do this on the 4th row of the pattern so the bead sites on the flat part of the cable between cable cross rows.
You might also like placing the bead on top of the cable cross itself, on stitch 2 or stitch 5.
I prefer placing beads actually on a stitch as you come to the stitch rather than stringing the beads and placing them between sts. Placed between sts they can disappear to the back of the knitting and often do.
Good looking hat!

I have frogged this hat project again- so far two patterns- I just can’t seem to make this bead thing work. I have looked for patterns that already have beads in them but I like to put the bead on the stitch instead of stranding. I am so annoyed!

That’s very frustrating. What seems to be going wrong?

I don’t know, I have counted and put the beads where they should go, but it just wasn’t looking right-and I am a perfectionist in my knitting- ALSO, I knit the rib edge in size 6 and it was too big so I probably would have frogged anyway.

Do you think it’s the size of the beads or the color?

It’s the placement, every time I try, I just think they don’t look like they are where they are supposed to be.

Maybe a design problem to put on hold for a different hat pattern. You can always change a pattern that has the beads strung on the yarn to one that had each bead placed on a stitch. You’ll find a perfect fit for the beads, I’m sure.
