I
my Addi Turbos, but I need a straight needle that knits just a nice. Does Addi make straight needles? If not, any suggestions for a smooth straight needle (I prefer metal needles)? Also I’m just starting to learn cables, but there’s all types of cable needles…do I get the ones that look like hooks, a shallow dip? Any advisement would help!!! Thanks!!
Addi Turbo Straight needles? Is there such a thing?
Not sure about the Addi’s , but for metal needles I use boye and susan bates…the Susan Bates acrylic needles are pretty nice too. I love the cable needles with the shallow dips in them.
Sorry, can’t help you on the straight needle question - I’m a bamboo chick myself.
Now, about your cable needle question: I’ve done a few cables in my time so… it’s personal preference. I know, that doesn’t help. OK, here is what I experienced…
The straight needle with the “bump” kept sliding right out of my work when I was first learning cable stitches. It drove me totally insane and I hated it with a passion! I changed to the hooked needle - it worked perfectly for me! I have always liked the fact that that I am able to just let the hook hang down either front or back and then work off it knowing that everything is where I left it.
I’ve done basic cables and more elaborate ones with the hook and have never had a problem. I think that I now have 4 hooks in different sizes? Anyway, that’s my experience. I don’t know if this helps but… I just can’t use the one with the bump. Good luck!

I asked about the Addis at my LYS (I’m also a fan!), and they told me that they only make DPNs. I just use my circs for straight knitting.
In terms of cable needles, I like the hook kind too.
since I am an almost exclusive circular knitter…how come ya lookin for straights??? hehehhee…
That’s what I was wondering, too!
BTW, I don’t think you will like the Susan Bates acrylic. I have a set of the Crystalites. They really seem to drag after knitting with the Silvalumes. If I ever buy any more straights, they will be Susan Bates aluminum…or I may try Addis.
Just looked at the Angel Yarns site. The Addi straight aluminum needles only come in 14 inch length. Guess I’ll have to give up knitting If I ever have to knit with 14 inch straights again.
But regular Addis are coated with brass… those can’t be the same material, can they?
CORRECTION: Addi turbo needles are metal, but the description on the cardboard insert says…Turbo finish brass tips. To me that means the needles tips are brass with a special finish to make them so smooth. It doesn’t appear that they are aluminum.
In any case, why would you need straights instead of circulars?
