Acetate yarn blocking

Hi! I’m knitting a newborn’s hat with 100% acetate yarn. I’m using 4 colors and even with keeping tension and floats pretty consistent it will definitely need to be blocked. My problem is I can’t figure out what this fabric really is so I’m not sure if I should steam block or wet block. Any suggestions? Thanks so much, this site is a wealth of information!!!

What is the name and manufacturer of your yarn? Here’s an article (in between the pesky ads) on either spray or steam blocking with the pros and cons.

Thanks so much! I read the article, so is acetate considered an acrylic (I’m so confused lol)? I’ve blocked acrylic by killing it and love that result, so soft and drapey. I’m just not sure if that method can be used with this yarn.

It’s Hobby Lobby Stitch 101 Acetate (100% acetate).

It has the laundry symbol for iron low temp :face_with_monocle:

Chemically acetate if different from acrylic but it sounds as if the washing and drying are similar. You might try making a small swatch and steam or iron it first to make sure how much ironing or steam it can take.

Thank you for the help. I’ll make a swatch and test it to be safe!
