It has been a long time since I used a 100% acrylic like Caron Simply Soft. How well does an item made from this yarn appear after several washings? I want to make sweaters for my grand daughters, but I don’t want to spend that amount of time on sweaters if they end up looking shabby after a few washings. I would love to use a superwash wool, but I can’t afford it at this time.
Thanks everyone. I’ll see what my Wal-Mart has to offer. It’s the only yarn within 30 miles of me. I need to get busy if I’m to get them done for Christmas.
Sunshine’s Mom- If you made socks for yourself and not a child, how many stitches did you cast on. That might be something I could make for myself with any left over yarn from the sweaters.
OoOh.I’ve never actually made much with CSS that required washing.I just use it primarily for cat toys, but my current project is a gift for a cousin, a scarf and matching fingerless mitts.Wondering if anyone has any before or after pics?
I’d love to let her know for sure it will look relatively the same after machine washing.
I dunno, people say it pills, but I made a scarf and hat from it, and don’t see any pilling. I haven’t washed them much, probably need to throw them in the laundry this year, so maybe it’s repeated washing that makes the pills? They’re knit at a large gauge too, which people say will make something pill for sure.
I love CSS, it’s one of my favorites to knit with. I have found that it gets even softer when you wash it, and it loses some of the stiffness that it has when it’s not washed.
The only issue I have with it is that after I wash my FOs they’re somewhat less thick than they were before I washed them… I think it’s just the yarn’s density, though.
Thanks for the heads up. I didn’t realize CSS washed up that nice. I will probably use some for baby sweaters. They don’t wear them very long so it should be fine.
I have made many things from CSS and it washes and drys up great.I don’t put in a dry sheet though because I read somewhere that the dry sheet will make the item pill.
I just finished a baby blanket in feather and fan and have started a second one (for twins). I have had good luck with the wear, and haven’t noticed any fuzz while knitting. It knits up really well and I enjoy using it.
