There is a simple tool for making center pull yarn balls that has been in use in my areas of the world (the Nordic countries). It is called “nystpinne” in Swedish. Recently I noticed that Roxanne Richardson happen to have a video about this tool and I thought that I might as well link to it because it is a tool that anyone could make a rough version of with literally nothing else than a knife and some small trees growing in the ditches along the roads. You do not need expensive tools for making a center pull ball.
For small bibs and bobs of yarn I will use my thumb as a nostepinne.
In a pinch, I have used a fat marker with masking tape wrap for a bit more texture.
This do it yourself person used paper, double sided tape and scissors.
“So I did what any self respecting craft lover would do, I made my own using a sheet of A4 paper, double sided sticky tape and a pair of scissors.”
Silly me, I’ve collected cardboard tubes from things like plastic kitchen wrap or aluminum foil boxes to use as nostepinnes.
Brilliant!
Thank you so much for your post & your link! I actually found one of those tucked away in an old knitting bag. I completely forgot I had one! Lol! Now I can make some novelty yarn with my odds & ends that will have a proper center pull
Thanks for posting this!
