70% ULD sw/30% polyamid-what's this mean?

I just bought a bargain bag of yarn ($1.50 for 3 full skeins) at a thrift store this morning and the labels in German I believe and I can’t tell what the content is! I think it’s wool and polyamid(whatever that is) but I really don’t know.

It says Strompe-/Jumpergarn

70%ULD sw/30% polyamid

Any one got any ideas? :shrug: Thanks!!

I think you’ve got yourself a bargain bagful of Danish (not German) yarn.
I don’t speak any of the Scandinavian languages, but from experience I am guessing that:
the “U” in ULD stands for “Ull,” which is wool;
Polyamide is a form of nylon;
“Garn” is yarn;
And “jumper” equals sweater though “jumpergarn” might refer to knitting yarn in general.

From their Web site, Strompe would appear to be a Danish manufacturer of fiber products.
Your yarn appears in a pair of ivy-patterned socks
on this blog:

If there’s any gauge or care information on the label it’s probably shown in international symbols and can be easily translated.

Thank you so much for your reply! Danish, eh? I have been wondering all day. I appreciate your help-I was thinking of using this yarn (a pretty soft gray) to make socks, too, so I will go and check out the link you gave me!

I was trying to figure out what the initials were too-I was leaning towards “sw” being Shetland Wool-so I am glad to know the UL might mean wool.

Thanks again!!
