I bought this pattern - out of print - on ebay, and now cannot find it in the piles in my apartment! If anyone has a copy, or knows where I can find one - would be so grateful. I promised a grandparent something… and am desperate to find it. Thank you! Kath
Welcome to the forum!
Please try the original seller on Ebay. They should have a record of your purchase and be able to send a copy.
Unfortunately we cannot pass on or sell patterns here.
I don’t think they have a copy… this was the original pattern. I’m a bit heartsick over this…
Ugh, I know how frustrating this kind of thing can be. Sorry not to be able to help. Why not try Rowan? They may not be sympathetic since the pattern was sold on Ebay but who knows?
Maybe a relook at the piles that you have will turn it up? You may just strike gold.
Good luck in your quest.
An alternative is to look for similar patterns in the same weight yarn.
thank you so much - not sure there is a pile that is untouched! but i remember saying, i need to put this somewhere important… god knows where that is. I tried Rowan - emailed the woman I bought it from on ebay, have searches out… i have a sweater in that pattern - would someone be able to make a pattern from the actual sweater? I am a knitting novice… thank you for your kind note and help.
I once moved a couple of pattern books including a pattern I was about to cast on to a drawer. We had guests for the week and I was tidying up. Later I couldn’t find the pattern and didn’t remember putting it in a drawer. Bought the pattern and of course, subsequently found the book.
Hope you can track this down.
Any of these come close?
It’s quite a challenge to reverse engineer a sweater pattern. You could learn a lot by trying it though.
Maybe you like one of the similar patterns salmonmac posted instead? It would be easier to work to a pattern that has been properly written and tested.
If you’re up for a challenge you could try adapting a basic pattern by adding a similar stitch to the one in the sweater you want. I can’t really see the pattern clearly, is is a bobble and vine pattern? There are a variety of free stitch pattern charts for a similar result but you’d need to experiment with gauge, work out the repeat and stitch count for the size you need and so on.
Here is one example, of many
thank you so much - i hear you on the looking in unexpected places… still no go here. even the freezer! i put keys in there once. is there a way to knit from an actual sweater? don’t see this sweater in your suggestions - but you are so sweet to send!
ah - thank you. i am a knitting novice - so would be too hard for me. reason i’m relying on you experts! this orange pattern is close… k
Oh I’m no expert. Just a fellow knitter saying what I’d say if we were face to face in a knitting group.
It is definitely possible to reverse engineer a sweater from looking at it, but it takes a lot of designing, maths, experimental swatches and research for each stitch pattern. If you’re not up to the challenge (and that is a very complex sweater) then i think your best bet is to choose a different pattern that’s available to buy or for free.
If you search “bobble vine and cable sweater knitting paterns” you mght find one you like. None will be identical though.
Close or in the spirit of the original pattern may be the best. And of course you know that the minute you find a comparable pattern, the original will turn up. Keep us posted !
