*&#$ 2nd gusset pick up >>>

Okay, picked up the first gusset stitches. On the instep needle, I have my 28 stitches.

On the sole needle I have 28 plus the ones I picked up.

NOW: The working yarn is hanging off of the instep needle right where the next stitches need to be picked up. But how do I do it? Which needle do I use? If I pick them up with the instep needle, I know Ill have to put them back on the sole needle but if I do that by slipping them, then the working yarn won’t move and it wil be in the wrong place.

PLEASE tell me which end of which needle I need to use to pick the second set of gusset stitches and how to get everything where it should be!

(Embarrassed to say that I have made socks before. I always get confused here-sometimes I get it right, sometimes I don’t) Sigh.

Thanks!

I looked at Silver’s tutorial to help, but you’re doing top down on 2 circs, aren’t you? So I have no idea…:frowning: Sorry. Bump for you!

Hiya hun,
O man I feel your pain, this is the very reason I HATE!!! gussets.

K you’ve gotten your heel all nice n turned n picked up the stitches on the one side going back up to the instep correct?

Now you’ll just knit the instep in whatever pattern you have (if there is one) and then just continue down the other side of the gusset picking up your stitches back down to the cup of the heel.

I would then reassign a needle to be your first needle (so you know where you are n all that stuff). Then start your decreasing for the wedge of the gusset.

ETA: O ok I see what the prob is. You would put those stitches on the heel needle. What you could do is take a dpn that is the same size as your circ and pick up the sts with that. Then knit them with the heel circ.

Hope that helps ya hun

DO I do this with the instep needle? If so, how do I get those stitches off of the instep needle and on to the sole needle?

Hiya boo,
They would go on the sole needle. But that is kinda like tryin to have n 80 yo granny do a back flip. It can be done but it ain’t perty!?! That’s why I suggested to pick of the gusset stitches with a similar size dpn or even another similar size circ and then using the sole needle, slip them puppies from the extra needle to the sole needle n just knit them.
