While checking to see if I have enough yarn for a new project, I ran across this chart for figuring out what weight you get with doubled yarn (doubling the same weight). If nothing else, it highlights the variability of yarn weights. Fingering doubled can yield Sport, DK, or Worsted, so swatching will still be necessary. But it’s a starting point!
On another topic…how do we tell the website that “swatching” is an actual word?? It’s always marked wrong!
Yes, swatching is a word. We use it a lot. It’s a spell check thing, nothing to do with this site. If I would add it to the spell check dictionary my computer is using it wouldn’t get highlighted. I hesitate to add words because if I inadvertently add one I’ve misspelled it won’t get highlighted and I don’t know how to remove an added entry and I would go blithely along misspelling it forever.
