2 quick questions

  1. I am knitting a gryffindor scarf on circular needles. The pattern calls for alternating sequences of 22 rows in each color. Do I count my cast on row as row number one?

  2. Also, becuase I am knitting in the round, do I still alternate knit and purl for a stockinette stitch or do I just knit all the way? I was not sure.

Thanks!

  1. Some people do count it, some don’t. It will add a tiny bit of height to that color, but it will be at the end. It’s sort of personal choice really.

  2. Just knit only. You don’t need to purl in the round for stockinette.

Patterns don’t usually count the CO as a row, so just knit 22 rows after that. Knitting every round while working in the round produces stockinette, so you don’t need to purl.

thanks to both of you! You guys responded so quickly.
