In the 1950’s one of the yarn companies (not sure which) had two different (as far as I know) stocking patterns. Both of the strocking were red, green and white with alphabet chart to personalize the top of the stocking. One of the stocking had a Santa head and crossed candy canes and the other had holly(if I remember correctly) and wreath. My aunt (who has passed away) made one for my brother and and myself. I would like to find either or both of the patterns so that I can make the same style for some of my neices and nephews. If anyone has a copy and would be willing to copy it for me I would be glad to pay for the expense of copying and mailing. I have searched on the web off and on for months and can’t find what I am looking for. I don’t believe that there would be a copy right problem but I would be willing to write the company if I could find out who to write. Thank you, any help would be appreciated.
This Christmas stocking pattern is similar to the one my mother has used for her children, nieces & nephews, and now grandchildren. I haven’t compared these instructions to the pattern she actually uses, but the picture looks the same. She puts the name on the top front of the stocking, and the birth year on the top back of the stocking. Then she attaches 2 or 3 jingle bells at the toe.
This stocking is actually a big part of the reason I wanted to learn how to knit…knowing that, unfortunately, my mother won’t be around forever, and someday (hopefully many, many years down the road) I will need to be able to knit more of these Christmas stockings.
This one doesn’t seem to be exactly like the one you described, but maybe it will help in some way. If you do find the exact pattern you are looking for, I’d love to see it!
You are right, though not exactly like the one I describe, this one is close…and I thank you, but hopefully someone has the pattern out there because I would really like to use the same patterns if possible.
Thank you
Do you still have your own stocking? Would you be able to scan it and make a chart of the design?
Yes, I could scan and/or chart mine but I need the chart for the one with crossed candly canes…
I found a copy of the pattern with the santa and candy canes…my aunt’s daughter found it in a box of patterns that she had saved for years…and just in case any one wants to know the stocking kits were Bernat and in the 70’s another company (Buscilla) sold several different kits but the names were done in duplicate stitch instead of knitted into the stocking.
I called Bernat and they no long have the patterns available in any form, however, even though there is no copy right on the pattern, the lady said that if I shared it she suggested that I share one copy at the time and not post it on the web. So if anyone wants a copy I will be happy to mail it to you.
Hi. It is now almost two years after the last posting, but I have been looking for a pattern that you described. My grandma made them for the entire family but she passed away 5 years ago. Now I have a two year old daughter that I would love to make one for. I loved the way my mom used to over-stuff the stocking with everything from toothbrushes, to apples in the toe and heel to Barbies. If you still have the pattern available, is there any way I can get a copy?
Hi!
I found this pattern when I was looking for a Christmas stocking pattern that I lost. Hope it’s the one!
