Yo, yfwd?

I take it from reading these posts that these 2 stitches are one in the same; is that correct?
I started knitting the Triangle Shaw found on the frienshipshawl.org website. Row 8 says to K3, YO, purl across . . . .; if I understand the YO before purling, I’m bringing my yarn to the front, taking it back over the right hand needle and bringing it to the front again (kind of like wrapping the needle); if this is correct, I’m not sure I like the way it looks - the “hole” seems big and I see the yarn and it looks like a dropped stitch. Any clarification would be appreciated.

That’s the `correct’ way to make a YO between a knit and purl and it does make a larger hole than between 2 knit sts. What you can do is bring the yarn over the top of the needle from back to front, but loosely. When you come to it on the next row, you will have to knit it through the back leg so it doesn’t twist.

Sounds like how I would do it. But if you don’t like the result, try simply pulling the yarn forward from the back of your work by passing it OVER the right-hand needle and then continue with your purling. The next row, remember to work this as a single stitch.

Now look at it closely and see if you feel better with this kind of YO.
