I suck at Yarn Overs. Whenever there are YOs in a pattern I always mess it up. Here is the issue I am having with a dish cloth pattern. It calls for a YO, followed by slip 1, k2tog, and PSSO. This is where I am confused. I bring the yarn to the front of the needles for the YO and then slip the stitch over. But do I keep the yarn in the front while I do the k2tog? I clearly messed up because I was bringing the yarn to the back after the slip 1 in order to do the k2tog. What am I missing? I went from 37 stitches to like 23 lol Thanks for any help!
YO with PSSO
You’ve basically got it right. Bring the yarn to the front between the needles and then over the right hand needle to the back. Then slip the next st. What I do is sometimes put my left thumb on the yo so that it doesn’t move near the slipped st. Do the k2tog and psso. The thumb on the yo makes it a little easier to locate the slipped st since it’ll keep trying to hide under the yo. Check after each decrease that you see the yo draped over the needle. It may help to watch the video under the Free Videos tab at the top of the page, Increases, YO.
Instead of thinking of a YO as bringing the yf, I wrap it to the back, then slip and work the next st. The, sk2p is supposed to decrease the stitch number unless there’s a YO on the other side of the decl; make sure you just move the slip st.
Yes, I discovered the issue. I was wrapping the yarn in the front, but not wrapping it completely around the needle. I thought bringing it back around happened after the slip. Silly me no wonder YO patterns make me cringe
Well, it should go to the back when you do the k2tog, but sometimes the yo gets crossed up with the slip st. So it’s easier to see if you wrap it around then do the slip.
