YO causing extra stitch with no corresponding k2tog or ssk

I’m wondering if any of you have some advice on rows 7 and 9 of the pattern below (first 4 stitches of each row below). Essentially, the first 4 stitches are creating an extra stitch. It looks like all odd rows (except 7 and 9) have one yo with either a k2tog or ssk. However, rows 7 and 9 have two yo but only one ssk. When I continue with the pattern repeat, all my stitches are off by one and it’s causing an extra stitch at the end of the pattern. I’ve realized that it is a cause of the first 4 stitches in each of these rows.

Row 1: k2, k2tog, yo
Row 2: p4
Row 3: k, k2tog, yo, k
Row 4: p4
Row 5: k2tog, yo, k2
Row 6: p4
Row 7: yo, ssk, yo, k
Row 8: p4
Row 9: k, yo, ssk, yo
Row 10: p4
Row 11: k2, yo, ssk
Row 12: p4

What is the name of the pattern?
Do you work the first 4sts, then the 15stitch repeat for a given number of times and finish with the remainder of the chart (9sts)?
Is the black dot a bead added onto a stitch?

Thank you!
It’s pattern 14 in Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible (260 Exquisite Patterns by Hitomi Shida).

As I understand, you work the first 4 sts and then work the 15 st repeat your desisted number of timeS (I’m doing 20 repeats) and that ends it. It looks like the first 4 stitches are included for symmetry purposes. But I may be wrong.

The black dot is a bobble that you crochet.

Often the sts after the repeat complement the first 4 sts but even if you end with the last 9, there are rows like 5,7 and 9 that have an overall decrease.
I don’t see any errata online for this book.

Thank you! Definitely helpful!

I’m late to this thread, but…don’t knit from the beginning of the stitch pattern. Those four columns (in #14) are not meant to be knit. You start where the tiny number 1 is on the bottom and on the side.

That said, I’ve been having trouble with the same stitch pattern, and the same row, because it seems to go off by a stitch on row 7 even when I do it correctly and even though the stitch count works out right. 3 yo, 3 decreases. The stitches don’t line up on the left the way they’re charted.

I don’t have this book although it sounds fascinating.
Although we can’t post large portions of patterns here due to designer copyright, it might help if you could post a photo of several rows of the chart. Use the landscape icon in the top banner of the Reply box and then follow the directions to choose a file and upload.
