Yikes - Zoe Mellor - How do you do that?

Hi all. So, I just got the book, 50 baby bootees to knit and was so psyched to come home and try the patterns that I could barely wait to get home. :inlove: I jumped right in with the “jester bootees” on p.67 and was totally stumped on row 15 (“make hem, fold work at row of holes and knit together. 1 stitch from needle and 1 stitch from row 9, across row.”) I’ve seen instructions like that for a picot edging, but they usually involve 1 stitch from needle and 1 stitch from cast on edge. How do you do this from row 9. How do you even locate row 9 when the beginning rows are in garter stitch (a stitch pattern I have difficulty reading).
Please help, I hate to abandon this pattern…
Thanks!

Yes, rows in garter stitch are harder to figure out, but here’s what you can do. Each ridge is 2 rows-- in each ridge, the Us going up are one row and the Us going down are the 2nd row. So you can probably get very close to being accurate about which row is number 9. Then you could take a fine yarn of a different color and thread it through that row so that you can find it more easily as you are picking up those stitches.

I agree with running a contrast yarn/thread through the
row so you can easily identify which stitches you need to
be knitting. You can then, on the second bootee, foresee
this problem and count your rows as you knit them and when
you do row 9 run a strand of contrast yarn ( I use embroidery
thread) through already so when it comes time to use those sts
again the row is already marked. If you are unsure how to
do that you can check from here
under the “fixing mistakes” section and it demonstrates how to run a life line which is basically what you would be doing.

I also just got this book because it had great reviews and adorable patterns. One hour into my first project and I was ready to pull my hair out. Page 58 the Heel and Toe socks the heel shaping is completely wrong. If anyone has the corrections to this book it would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!
