Alan Dart “Little Lorelei” Mermaid - YF and YB help needed
I can do most of the basic stitches, but I don’t know how to do YF or YB. Can anybody tell me how to do these stitches? Thanks!

Those aren’t stitches, it just means to move your yarn forward (YF) or to the back (YB) for whatever you do for the next stitch.
Yes, Suzeeq is right. BUT! Be sure to move your yarn forward by going Underneath your needles. Because if you go Over either needle, you’re making a new stitch, known as a yarn-over.
So do a yarn-under to move your yarn to the front or back.

Well, not underneath exactly, but between the needle tips. Some people have been known to go under the needle, but they go under the knitting too, if they’re on the first row.
You have your answer now on what to do w/ the yarn (between needles!) but I just wanted to say what a cute pattern!
