Year of the Sweater, 33&1/3... A Fall Cardigan

:waving: Hi everyone!!!

July is right around the corner, and that’s when we’re starting the next KAL for fall. The goal is to be done by the end of September. For fall, we’re going to do a cardigan (or a wrap or jacket or a vest–whichever your prefer). Save those pullover and poncho patterns for the winter KAL!

I will be making the Lift and Separate from Big Girl Knits.

I’m going to structure this KAL more like the first one, in 2-3 week sessions for each part… left front, right front, back, sleeves, seaming, etc. Again, you can pick whatever pattern and yarn you want to use. Here’s some links to get you started:

Knitting Pattern Central’s list of Cardigans (5 pages worth!)
Knitty’s achive The cardigan list is the 2nd group down
Knitting Pure and Simple: Women cardis and the lone man’s cardi is here (these are not free, but the patterns are great, I have several)
MagKnits archive (look under “type”

The first task will be, as usual, to pick a pattern, get yarn/needles/whatever you need, and knit a gauge swatch. As always, this can be a stash buster too, but you’ll have to plan carefully!!!

Let us know what you’re going to be knitting as soon as you’ve figured it out! We will “oficially” begin week one on July 3rd. Beginners, if you’re ready to move on to a project that’s a bit more challenging, this will be a good project to start. We can help you choose a pattern that will be appropriate for your skill level… and if there’s something you’re not sure of, just ask! We can point you in the right direction.

Happy Knitting :XX:

Oooh lift and seperate…I likey!!! I wonder what kind of yarn I can get to hold up my girls…

since I know hildie likes to talk about boobies can you tell me what size you are and what yarn you are using??? Doesn’t have to be out in the open…can pm me

I’ve been waiting for this :cheering: I have the Andean Treasure cardi vest from KP that I have been wanting to start. Is a vest OK?

Woo! I already have my yarn and pattern…

:cheering: :cheering: I have the basic KPS pattern #9725, but I was thinking of doing a stitch other than stockinette. Or maybe doing a border on the edge of the sleeves and bottom…

You mean I can get off my knitting butt and START STARSKY?!?! :cheering: :cheering: :cheering: Woohoooooooo!!!

Jan, I have that pattern too. Basketweave maybe?

JULIE!! I love it!!! what yarn are you using?

Nina… you know, i was going to add “vest” to the list, but didn’t at the last minute. I think I’ll put it back in! You just get to relax during the “sleeves” part!

Steph… I’m wavering between the 2x and the 3x… My bust is 48, but my HIPS are 52… so the 2x would fit at the boobs (49) but the hips might be snug (50)… the measurements given are given with the wrap fully closed, so it might be okay to do the 2x… but not if I have to wear it as open as the model  … that’s a little too boobalicious to wear to school! I haven’t decided on yarn either… I really like this plymouth bamboo, but it would cost 140 to buy the yarn    I love Merino style, and it would only cost 42 bucks for the yarn, but my Tubey started to pill after only 3 or 4 wearings…Knitpicks Andean Silk would cost 59.22, but I might not get the right gauge (it’s worsted not DK) … Knitpicks Elegance is REALLY nice, that would cost 73.00… decisions decisions decisions…

:cheering: :cheering: WTG, Hilde, that’s the cardi that I want to do, too!!! Gotta get the book

ooo and steph, I’m a 42DD, btw

Andrea you MUST do starsky!!! It’s about time!

everyone keeps posting at the same time as me!

Yay rebecca!!!

 :hiding:

ETA: Julie, I love that cardigan!! :inlove:

Wow…I know I’m atleast a 42DDD I think I am over that…I’m going to the custom made Bra Store this weekend. (Have to get something good for my sister’s wedding)

This KAL seems a bit out of my range this time round. But I can’t wait to see the pictures of the WIP and then the FO’s when the time comes! Good luck ladies and can’t wait to see what you come up with!

~danielle~

noooooooooooo danielle, you can do it!!!

You can do it, Danielle!! :cheering:

Has anyone ever used this yarn or it’s solid counterpart?
Schoeller Stahl Micro Cable Color

I really like 2 of the Knitting Pure and Simple patterns - #234 and #252. I really am leaning towards #234. Looks so cozy. But without seeing the pattern I’m not sure how hard it would be. I’ve not been knitting long.

What do you think??

Kristin, I’ve made a pullover from KPS and the pattern was written very well and easy to read and follow. The zippers worried me on those, but with all the help here you should be fine.

I agree… the patterns are easy to read and follow, I’m just afraid of zippers! I’ll bet, though, you could knit it without zippers and just add buttons! And you wouldn’t have to worry about button holes, either, you can just add little knitted loops on the side. I think 234 would be cute with buttons.

I’m going to do this one in mmmmmMalabrigo! :cheering: Now I just have to find a pattern.
