I made the SnB “Newsboy cap”, and it has cables on it! I was able to figure out how to do them, thanks 100% to Amy’s WONDERFUL videos and for everybody on this list that encouraged me!!! I feel like I can conquer anything knitting-related at the moment (well, maybe not anything!)! The hat has a couple of mistakes on it, but all in all, I was able to knit it from start to finish, and that’s what counts, because I had serious doubts I would finish the hat after starting it. I bought some super cheapie acrylic in case I got frustrated with the pattern and my lack of experience knitting skills, at least I wasn’t out a lot of money ($3.00!!!). Anyway, I think the hat yearns to be knitted in a tweedy wool, so maybe I’ll make a version in that (something like this from Knit Picks.
Anyway, in addition to learning cables, I was able to figure out all of the increases and decreases without trouble, and use dpn’s, which are things I wouldn’t have known how to do say even 6 months ago. This group has given me such courage to try new things, and Amy’s videos are AMAZING and invaluable. Thanks everybody–you guys ROCK!!! :cheering:
That is awesome… I agree it is totally cool to know that you tried a new stitch/technique that you couldn’t do before and now you can…
i can’t cable either but I try to try a different technique or yarn with each new projetct…!!
hats off to you!!
In the one picture, I kind of “poufed” up the hat in the back to make the cables more visible.
It’s me and my cheapie $3.00 per skein acrylic yarn…not too bad for a practice hat though! Now that I figured out how to do it, I made one in merino. (mmmmmm!)
Hi Laura! I made the 7" length which was the maximum length given for the pattern directions. My hair isn’t really long so much as it is thick, and I feel it gave me enough room for my hair. I just measured 7" from the start of the cable to the end. Making the hat the largest size had me using about 200 yards of yarn–almost an entire skein with hardly any waste which I like. I’m not good at figuring out what to do with partial skeins of yarn!
