Last year I saw a knitted snowman family. It was too late last year but I want to do this for this holiday. It’s the pattern from Fave craft. It doesn’t say what weight yarn, only says 4 ounces. I have white medium weight. I think it’s Caron. So should I go with this.
Yarn weight
It looks like it will be pretty simple. First set for me then I think I’ll do some as gifts ( teachers, etc). But first need to do the first set.
Now after looking at the pattern that I got online, it appears incomplete, especially Mr Snowman. I checked Ravelry and there was a similar one but it was printed in a magazine that is out of print. Has Anyone done this one. I’m thinking that for body pattern is 8 rows and need to repeat 8x. This is based on directions for Mrs snowman.
There do seam to be missing directions. You’re on the right track with Mrs. Snowman (of course, she would be correct!). Size 5 needles may be calling for a DK or worsted yarn depending on how tightly you knit. You could try a knitting part with whatever yarn you have, just to get an idea of the gauge and size. It’s a very cute idea and a wonderful gift.

Yes that is what I have. I’m sitting here trying to puzzle this out while my granddaughter is in tutoring. On row 3 &4 it it says to purl to the last 3 stitches and turn and knit back and calls this a decrease row but I still have 30 stitches. This is supposed to be easy and I’m scratching my head. Am I reading this wrong? On row 4 do I just knit up to where I turned or do I knit to the very end including those 3 stitches on row 3 that I didn’t knit
This looks like you’re knitting sideways. So the short row helps shape the ball. Knit all the sts on row 4 including those not knit on row 3.
I finally found a blog that had the complete directions. But I still have the same question that despite what they call decrease rows I have 30 stitches. So row 3 l purl across 27 stitches. Turn leaving 3 I in worked on right needle. So I k it across 27 stitches to end of row. Row 5 I knit across 30 stitches including the 3 not worked on row 3. Is this correct
Yes, that’s it. The turns will shape the curve on the snowball.
Good sleuthing on your part to find directions!
