Yarn type

Could someone explain what type of yarn is this :
300g double knit
Is it more of a baby yarn ?
Light weight ?
Not 4ply ?
It is in a baby blanket I want to knit with size 5 needles .
Thanks so much my knitting friends :cherry_blossom:

Could you provide a link or the name of the pattern?

300 grams is how much yarn you have

Double knit is usually DK yarn which is in between worsted weight and sport weight. There is usually a number on the label as well. Lace is a 1, fingering is a 2, Sport is a 3, DK is a 4, Worsted is a 5.

Ply doesn’t really have anything to do with weight of yarn anymore like it used to.

Gauge is a better way to determine the weight of the yarn.

If you have a yarn name and link we can give you more info. Generally though if you’re using a size 5 US needle you’re probably wanting a DK yarn. But a pattern name would be more helpful.

Thank you so very much !!!
