I’ll write this quick before I get balls of knotted wool thrown at me for mentioning it… but the best luck I’ve had with a smooth bulky is Bernat Softee Chunky. It’s 100% acrylic, but it’s really soft. Also, I’m doing the Skacel pinwheel sweater out of Sirdar Denim chunky, and I know it comes in a bulky weight as well.

<ducking the flying wool> :rofling: I will also vote for softee chunkey – I’ve used it for mittens and hats, and it is very soft and inexpensive, and very easy to knit with (no splitting, etc…)
