Yarn Substitution

I’m thinking of knitting the Tubey sweater as my very first sweater. But I can’t exactly afford the yarn (Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran) called for by the pattern… sucks to be a poor highschool student. So I was wondering if Bernat Satin would work as an alternative yarn. The gauge seems to be the same, but I thought I’d ask the more experienced knitters on this site. And if this won’t work, can anyone suggest some lower priced yarns available in Canada?

:XX: Thanks!

I think that would work…you could also try knit picks? A lot of us have been using Merino Style or Andean Silk

Have you checked out the Tubey KAL??

Patons Canadiana is very similar in weight to the wool called for in the pattern. However, it’s 100% acrylic, and the finished effect won’t be the same as the Cashmerino. IMO, Canadiana is one of the better acrylics, and will hold up better than a lot of the cheaper ones. You can often find it on sale at Michael’s, and if you don’t have a Mike’s nearby, you can try Lewiscraft or the Mary Maxim catalogue.

I was actually considering using Canadiana, and now I think I will.
