Yarn Substitution?

MOST adorable pattern I found for a toddler dress calls for Dalegarn Stork Cotton (or similar). Could I use baby sport weight yarn from my stash or is this a completely different weight of yarn? Having trouble figuring this one out.

Thanks!

you need to find out what the recomended needle size is along with the guage. As long as you can get them to match I dont see why you cnat.

You could go to www.yarndex.com and do a search on the yarn it calls for and then you can figure out it’s weight. You also might be able to find a list of substitutions also.

Is this it? Stork from Dale of Norway?

It’s fingering weight egyptian cotton. If you want to substitute, you could use a baby or sport weight (it’s just a wee bit thicker) or you could use DMC’s size 5 cotton crochet thread (aunt lydias any comparable size 5 crochet cotton would work).
