Yarn substitution question

Hey everyone,

I just downloaded a lovely pattern for lace curtains, but am unsure about how to go about substituting the yarn. I just moved to Seoul and haven’t found knitting shops that carry the brands I’m used to. Also, the gauge in the pattern is measuring post-blocking so I’m not sure what to do…

The yarn in the pattern is Silk City Fiber 3/2 perle cotton, and the gauge is 16 sts and 28 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Main Body pattern,
blocked. 20 sts and 40 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Edging pattern. 26
sts and 32 rows = 4” (10 cm) in St st on smaller needles.

Ideas? Should anything the same material and weight work out alright? Since they’re curtains, it shouldn’t be a huge deal if the gauge is off…right?

Possibly heavy crochet thread would work. If the gauge of whatever you use is off, the curtains may be wider or narrower than you need, so you should dec the number of sts if you need to fit a certain size.

I would like to add a further question to the above post from Knittinginseoul" are you able to give me a ply no. for the above yarn? as in 4ply,8ply and so on.
