If a childrens toy pattern calls for size 2 yarn, but instructs you to hold it double through out, would it be ok to just use a size 4 yarn? It is the

KNIT LIZZIE RABBIT AND DRESS [FREE KNITTING PATTERN] from The Knittingspace.com. it will be for my granddaughter who is turning 2, not sure I want to buy yarn when I actually have a large stash. Thank you Jerri

Here’s a website which gives equivalents for yarn doubled:

Doubling a sport weight may give you more of a DK weight. Knit a swatch with your yarn to check that you’re getting the pattern gauge or close to. That’ll give you an idea of how the substitution will work out.
