Yarn sub advice

There is a summer sweater I’m dying to make. I got the pattern from a library book, and it calls for Newport mercerized cotton yarn, which I cannot find! The pattern says you can sub with any bulky cotton yarn, and I’m having trouble finding something with no texture. Any suggestions?? Oh, and I prefer something CHEAP! Thanks!

The cotton prices at Camilla Valley Farm are really reasonable…you might want to call to get clarification on the weight though…it’s kind of confusing. :??

(They do have mercerized as well as unmercerized)

Does it give a gauge? The only Newport yarn I can find is Classic Elite’s Newport, 5 sts per inch.

Thanks, guys. Well, the gauge is 4 st per inch (in pattern stitch on size 8 needles). I may have found something on yarn.com, but I’m still open to suggestions.
