Yarn question

Hi, I’m planning on knitting a purse for my mom’s birthday, and I was wondering what yarns would be strong and able to handle a lot of wear and tear.
I know wool is supposed to be strong, but my mom’s allergic to wool, so any wool or wool blends are sadly a no.

I’m making that bag, and it suggests a bulky wool yarn.
I was thinking of using two strands of Cotton Ease held together, or Bernat Alpaca, but I’ve heard some negative things about a lot of white hairs coming off the Alpaca yarn. Also, I’m not opposed to acrylic yarn, as long as it’s strong.

Oh and also, her birthday is in less than a month, and I don’t knit very quickly, so yarns that could be bought at Michaels ( http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayproductlist?categoryid=100106 ) would be preferable. The nearest LYS is really far from me, and there’s no Jo-Ann in sight.

Thanks so much!

I totally agree with you! Two strands of the cotton ease! I love the crisp appearance of this yarn! It will be nice and strong with double strands! And the bonus: cotton yarns ‘define’ the cables very well!
Plus it’s washable!!!

This is a beauty of a pattern! I saved it in my patterns, too!

Happy Knitting dear daughter!

Alright, thanks for the help!

And also, I put the KnitPicks Options on my birthday list instead of buying the cheapo bamboo circulars I found on eBay.
I’d rather have a quality product with a 1 year warranty than cheap bamboo needles that I have to ship back to China if there’s a problem with them. So thanks for advocating KnitPicks so strongly haha.

I think that would look gorgeous in Cotton Ease! I have the pattern in my favourites, too, isn’t it beautiful! Make sure you share photos when you’re finished!
